Hey guys,

I know some of you aren't fans of the robot guitars. I was browsing Gibson's website and I came across the Robot Les Paul Jr. Special in TV yellow. I think it is a great looking guitar but I cannot find it anywhere on the net. Is this still for sale? Or was it one of the original robot models? Does anybody know what the street price was? Anyone have one with feedback? Any help would be much appreciated. I can't seem to find any second hand info on her.

Here is the link if you would like to see the guitar.

That makes it no longer a Jr. Special. Just a Robot. :noway:

I really think Gibson's developement team are a bunch of idiots.

Who is this actually appealing to? I think every sensible player would rather have a vintage TV Special and a tuner pedal. All these improvements are a waste of time and money. It is just a distraction from concentrating on what makes a good guitar.

I just worry that all these new robots, darkfires and zoot suits are going to drag Gibson under with them. Is Gibson turning into the GM of guitar makers, increased production, loss of quality, new models are rubbish, etc.

I didn't want this thread to turn into a haters ball on robot guitars. I just thought that it looked like an affordable les paul jr in tv yellow. I am not familiar with any gibson re issue lp jrs in tv yellow. If any of you are please enlighten me. I enjoy the look and simplicity of the guitar yet I am uninformed on vintage values etc. that may help me out.

Thanks.

So they basically took the Junior Special SL that sold for $600 a couple of years ago, added Robot stuff and and a stain finish.... mark it up another $2100 !!!

I'd go just for a Special with out the robot stuff, unless you really need to use it with a bunch of different tunings.

I tried out a Robot LP when Sam Ash had that deal not too long ago. I returned it. One of the tuners was a little loose and wouldn't tune up, it also added enough weight to the head of the guitar to throw off the balance and make it hang weird.
Before I was curious about the new electronics in guitars, like the self-tuning. Now I'm completely turned off by it.

Sorry that you feel that way, but I own one and love it. I haven't had any problems yet and the automated tuners are actually lighter than Gibson's standard ones.

I guess they vary?

I really like my robot...I thought the jr special would be a good application, P-90's and and slide tunings sound good to me.

I dont know why people are so angry about them???

I always liked the 50s/60s robots more than modern ones.

I really like the idea of the Robots. Not so much for minor tuning tweaks (I can do that myself), but in its ability to quickly switch between multiple tunings. It would be great to have a guitar that could quickly go from standard tuning to an open tuning with the push of a button. I have to applaud Gibson for moving forward with this technology, even if its implementation isn't quite there yet.

Still, putting that stuff on a Junior seems completely contrary to the whole spirit of that guitar.

LMAO! We got some drama queens in here. I don't see why yall get so bent out of shape about robot guitars. The technology is very useful for some of us.

If the guitar plays and sounds good and you can get it at a blow out price, why not. I got my robot SG allot cheaper than I could get a regular SG. I figure if the tuners screw up I'll put the guts and the balance on ebay and fund a new bridge, tail and tuners. S'all good. It looks and plays super nice too.

No problems with weight with mine, maybe you got one of the ones with kryptonite tuners?

No way! First Gibson Robot I actually really like the look of! But they don't make it any more? Ah well.

A 1977 LP Jr Special in TV Yellow just sold on eBay for under £1000. If I'd had the money I would have gone for it.

I was fortunate to find one in my local GC. I got it for a great price ($850 with a ohsc). It starting acting up three weeks after I bought it; the mck would go out of stand by after a tuning... Sent it to authorized tech, no luck after replacement of the part... So gibson has requested the guitar to be repaired at their shop... Good thing, it'll get repaired and maybe, they'll change the system to the 2nd generation ones.... Bad thing, it is already been a month and Gibson estimates another month before delivery :(

Regardless all these problems, I really like the guitar and for the price a got a good lp jr special, with a robot system.

Wow - that's a pretty good price - about £550!! I'd be happy with even without the Robot bits - nice one. Got any pics?

I played a few robots and love them. If I do buy one, then I could finally do different songs in different tunings in the same set without having to switch guitars, that's the best part about these.
