I've searched around for this but I have not been able to find anything on this, so if anyone has any insight or can remember more clearly than I please let me know....

So here's the backstory: The first time I ever saw a Silverburst Custom I was already a LPC player - I had a '77 - and if I could have I would have made the trade for the Silverburst in a second. So, I recently picked up a '79 Siverburst Custom, a guitar I had wanted since they first came out. And I am wondering if I am remembering this clearly...

My recollection from the time was that they were issued as a "25th (Silver) Anniversary limited edition" model to commemorate 25 years since the Les Paul Custom was first introduced in 1954. So my question is, do I remember this correctly or not? I know they produced them for more than just 1979, and they are relatively rare but not that tough to find, but I wonder if I am remembering this wrong from almost 40 years ago?? What are your recollections??

"I prefer the Les Paul Custom. It's a black guitar with a greenish burst in the middle. They only made them for two or three years. I guess a lot of people complained that the metallic finish was affecting the sound."

no clue, but he made the value of these jump pretty good......there ARE a lot of people that think the paint on these affect the tone.....it falls right in there with maple -vs- hog neck.

I can make them all sound like SH^t!

No sir, not once...but they were very different blends etc. etc.

The goldtop has a lot of copper, actually....silver burst had some but also had something else, I do not recall exactly what.....

The copper is what makes them both turn greenish with age and sweat.

"Snotburst" :rofl::rofl::rofl:

Thing is, the yellowed laquer tends to temper the tone of the Silver paint. To get the full effect it's best to stick to the less yellowed versions. You pay a premium but you can't put a price on TONE!!!!

There was a proper 25th anniversary 1977 custom that is silver that was commissioned by Guitar Center. I believe this is what you are remembering. Very cool guitars.
