971428 bought it from a shop in Denmark streett (tin pan alley) England in 2014. This was owned by a collector which the shop can’t disclose to me.

Thanks! I know they're not common, but the most I've been able to pin down in one year is six in 2007.

Has anyone information on the missing serial numbers for the Murphy-aged 2007 (once owned by mylespaul forum member vulgarium), the R9 from 2005 (once owned by mylespaul forum member Marshallow) or the R8 from 2004? Any others not on this list?

Over ten percent of them (2) were worked on by Historic Makeovers and have Tom Holmes pickups (I get that). Do any others have changes of note?

Hi Unlisted
I only have information on mine which is a Yamano order serial number 931394. You have it down as brock but it’s more of a curly maple iced tea burst and what looks like a Madagascar Rosewood fingerboard. Thanks for all the research you have done it’s much appreciated.

That fretboard is awesome!

My ‘04 CR6 0016 had a superb Mad board too.

Absolutely my fave fretboard.

This is so cool! I love these threads where the models are tracked…even after years!

I have one figured top Les Paul that is clearly bookmatched, but I have two 2005 68RIs that are covered in Nitro (Pelham Blue and Ebony) that have zero hint of a seam line in the top, so I always wondered if they were a single piece of Maple.

The article in the link seems to be saying opposite doesn’t it? They stopped importing Madagascar wood after that year because they got told off surely? Anyway once you research pictures of Madagascar rosewood it’s pretty obvious compared to the other woods. The guitar above 94215 looks pretty Madagascan to me.

Thanks!

I want to make certain I got the Burst colors right so I contacted Gibson yesterday to list what is on their records. I'll post any updates/corrections. (There used to be a telephone number one could call to check serial numbers against their build records, but I haven't been able to find it.)

"Alexander von Bismarck, who, as Executive Director of the Environmental Investigation Agency, conducted on‐the‐ground investigations in Madagascar in 2008 and 2009 that
exposed Gibson’s illegal imports and led to today’s actions." “Gibson has accepted
responsibility for importing illegal wood from Madagascar."
The Imports started about 2006, when Indian Rosewood exports were banned, and continued
until 2009, when it was determined that there was no regulatory agreement in place to allow
the exports from Madagascar to continue.

Many of the first run of CRs in ‘04 used Mad rosewood.

It may not have been the predominant rosewood at Gibson but it was being used.

Phillip confirmed that when the CR run came out.

The above was likely referring to the investigation and known illegal imports.
