Imagine joining an awesome band with a slew of songwriting potential, but playing to only one crowd, every night, who booed everything except this one song. You desperately try to write something better, but time and again, these superfans just have to piss all over everything you try to accomplish, because they really aren't superfans of your band, just the one single song some previous members wrote 50 years ago. That would suck...

.....and everytime you go see that band, the price has increased dramatically and the musicianship worsened

I think the HP's are gross. I like Les Paul's because of the features that attracted me to the Les Paul, no need to change them. I'll continue to buy used, new prices and offerings are LOL.

A new tune isn't good because 60 years ago the same band wrote a good tune.
If a tune is good, it's good.
If it sucks, it sucks.
That's the way of the world, Man.

All I can say is that at that price, you better like it when you buy it.
It's a matter of taste/features but I personally think that the market for those is limited.
If you really need the features and the burst doesn't bother you, fine.
But you still have to come to terms with the price. It's insane.
And resell will probably be... difficult.

I know, right?

How could we forget to calculate in the “poor Henry” aspect when deciding if we like the new songs his band is putting out.

That is an AMAZING GC you gots dere, @diogoguitar . The nearest to me (45 miles) nowhere near as nice

Yeah, this particular GC is awesome. Some people bash GC for no reason, but when it comes to sit down, test out new guitars, they are top of mind.
I'd give 9 out of 10 for them on that. I only wish they had at least ONE left-handed HP model to test out. I had to kind of guess how the feel would look like if I were to purchase a lefty model

Like the new HP's very much, they are running at around 3k here which is a bit on the expensive side for the market they are obviously intended to appeal too.

nice guitar though and there are leftys. In a year or two time when they start appearing on the used market I would seriously be thinking about one

the case of my 2016 trad HP just came from the store to home.. absolutely IMPOSSIBLE to use it .. it's in a closet with the protective film still on... another "pearl" of gibson products managers... thinking to go around with about 13/14 kilos hanged at you hand is just insane... moreover ... if you look at the price of a spare aluminium case is almost three times that of a traditional one.... as to say you are paying your guitar 300 $ more for a case nobody use and need to be swapped with a usable one ( spending more money..)

how was the setup out of the box of your 2016 guitar? I wonder if Gibson still had decent setup back in 2016.
I ask this because my 2009 came Plek'd from factory, so the setup was really good, but I wonder if Plek is still a standard feature on all American models (I don't see it specifically stated in the specs)

Was your '09 a Standard. I've had two '11 Standards that I really dug. Sold to finance other stuff. I'll get a 3rd that will be a keeper.

the setup of my 2016 was almost spot on.... I cannot say the same of my recently bought 2017 trad T.... I cannot crack the date handwritten on the guarantee card... but it seems to be 1/01/17... I don't think someone worked the first day of the year.. but if it was so the setup could be justified by the fact that he was still drunk from the new year eve toast.
I usually setup personally all my guitars... so it was not an issue.... only the slots on bridge saddles are completely out of center.... I mean .. REALLY OUT.. I try to make new slots beside the wrong ones.. but after a couple of saddles I uderstand I have to swap them all if I want to properly center the strings..and I left them as they were.. for now.... I just move G and B strings that are the ones most out of alignment

My 2009 is a Traditional, not Standard. I wanted the trad specs, so I went for it. It has served me really well along these years...

Yeah 01/01 kind of deserves the benefit of the doubt ;)

Picked up an ‘18 hp standard at GC on clearance in hot pink fade for $1536.00 . That’s a steal.
