I have been working really hard on this for acouple weeks but just finished my new modeling rig, can be used stand alone or as a hybrid.
It took me a while to figure out how to make it all gel together but the pay off was totally worth it.
The first thing was reverbs. The verbs in the Axe FX are outstanding and BiasFX verbs are ... well its not even fair to compare.
I was not willing to settle in this area and i didn't want to buy a standalone studio quality unit to add expense and bulk.
Solution ? Liquid Sonics convolution reverb app with the freely downloadable Bricasti Model 7 Impulse responses , 135 awesome reverbs! and there are thousands of IR's from spaces and devices from all over the world from other sources many of them free.
I run the Mesa into Bias FX and use the power amp modeling section of what ever amp i choose turning off preamp and tone stack sections. so my preamp is real tube and the power section is modeled. everything is then feed into a cab IR out to my Focusrite itrack dock and then to my Matrix Q12 FRFR's , the cab hooked to the mesa or both at the same time or just headphones.
If i ever need this to be even more portable i can amp match the mesa in Bias desktop pro and load them into the ipad and leave the head & cab off.
The last piece of the puzzle was finding a way to get inter audio apps to toggle on and off with my midi foot controller. Bias lest you map any of its built in effects to midi easily ..but! you can not toggle on and off IAA apps like the reverb i use via midi. I tried everything! solution.. AUM , a IOS host for routing audio and midi that integrates any audio app you want to use seamlessly.
the routing capabilities in AUM are insane I can also simultaneously branch the signal chain or any piece of it off to a DAW to record whats being played , feed in backing tracks , drum machines, synths, loopers ect ect all on 1 device.
I can finally say i'm content.
