ABR Bridge Studs

Why do the bridge studs only go into the body 1/2" and not farther?

If the maple cap is a 1/2" would it be better or worse to go into the mahogany as well?

I assume it would have been because that was just far enough to give stability......it was exactly the same as what was above the guitar. If they felt that was far enough they wouldn't have bothered going any further.

The mapleflame mod is a longer Abr stud. Not all who have done this have liked it.......the common complaint is that it makes the tone more metallic and less woody (for want of a better word).

And the two woods of the body are glued.....assuming a good joint this gives them all the coupling they need.
