I was looking at Hall Amplification and their variable voltage regulators. They claim that you can install this device and play your amp at bedroom volume levels but get a full throttle sound by turning the amp volume up and the VVR down.

Anyone have any experience with these?

Looks like an inexpensive and easy mod if it works.

I have one of these in a fixed bias amp. It regulates the high voltage and bias supplies and works very well. The sound does darken up somewhat as the volume is dropped, but that is easily compensated for with the amps EQ.

Here's a recent thread someone posted about installing the VVR in a marshall class 5 http://www.mylespaul.com/forums/squawk-box/97988-marshall-class-5-attenuator-vvr.html

The VVR kit for cathode bias is simpler to install than the one for fixed (just 3 wires instead of 5)

Thanks for the input! I may buy one of those.
