It is a real one, but expensive,
he is a guitar stripper, removes all the parts and sells them separately

Yep it's real...and it's real busted! A stripped, broke neck Studio for $550...don't think so.

even if it did not have a headstock repair it would still be expensive at that price

Yeah, they've also got a stripped '95 Standard for $1499 BIN as well. Awfully proud of their parts they are.

Thanks, did you see his other guitars? he been selling theis for years and because he has so many that made me suspicious.Im as clinical as you can get.I want a gibson SG
But as you know you get a gibson les paul and change all the hardware to what you want.replace the tuners with grover locking type and mabie remove the pickups and replace it with seymore duncans invaders if you into that.replace all the hardware.
So it works out cheaper just buying the wood.

It's up to you but unless you can get the wood for really cheap you're going to end up spending the equivalent of a new guitar or more for a used frankenstein. By the time you buy new pickups, new tuners, new plastics & hardware and new wiring you've spent at least another $500. Add that to the $1499 and you've just spent $2000 for a '95 Standard. Not a bargain in my book.

I think this is sacrilegious.Never bought from one of these sellers and never will. Stripping guitars to make a few more bucks. Does not sit well with me.

Hot-Brit- Definitely!!!! Which is why it seems illegal to dismantle a finished product and re-sell individual parts at cost (any cost)....because ultimately....it's like selling the guitar for far more than it's worth.

Yes, I see what you are saying Thump....it just seems weird. I mean, re-selling car parts from a dismantled car is illegal if the car is stolen (obviously)....but maybe some new laws need to be added to the books.

What he said....

The "does not sit well with me" feeling I get is similar to the "should be illegal" feeling.

I hope you're joking. If not, I completely disagree. A man can do what he wants with his property so long as he comes by it legally.

Taken to its logical conclusion, this would not only violate property rights, it would result in a number of vintage guitars rendered unrestorable due to the inability to source vintage parts.

I agree that these guys should not be stopped. It is perfectly legal. It just sucks. There have been times when I was tempted, I will be honest. Selling the parts vs the whole could get you a few hundred dollars more.I just never had the stomach for it. It was made that way, it should stay that way.Right? I wonder if the seller is even a guitar player? I only mod my guitars for tonal or aesthetic purposes. I just had a thought. What if you dropped your Strat at a gig and snapped the neck. You could find an other one that is O.E.M., I guess they serve a purpose. This seller has been around for years and has good feedback to prove it. Whatever floats your boat.

so buying an unloaded gibson bit of wood is ok by me Im thinking of buying an gibson SG and a LP preferably one made in the 70s 80s or even 90s.
thanks for telling me those guitars are real gibson.

Like I said, it's your deal but I still think you'd be better off finding a killer deal on a complete Gibson and then swapping out the stock parts for the 'hot rod' parts you've already got. Then you can sell the genuine Gibson parts to offset the cost of the whole project. That particualr seller has a good reputation but almost all of their parts are overpriced. I've even seen them selling used parts for more than it would cost for new parts from the factory.

Any complete Gibson costs over a grand.Im looking for a 60s 70s gibson LP and /or and SG.with no hardware. So if that guy sells real gibsons for less than a grand its ok by me.

OK then...good luck with that! :thumb:

You might also keep an eye out for stuf from seller "gibsondependable" He parts out Gibsons as well. He currently isn't listing any but he does usually have halfway decent prices.
