LMFAO!!!!!!!!!!!Im a huge Cornell fan but wtf??Who the hell decides these things??

Coming in the fall of 2013 from Gibson.... The Michelle Obama Signature Series!

and why not? if your a GAS victim maybe you are sick of having 'just another', "ah but sure heck thats DIFFERENT. i NEED a michelle obama guitar"

maybe marketing are on to these buyers, and the guitars cost the same to make right?

These things seem to be flying out of the stores so I guess Gibson picked a good one this time in Chris Cornell. You can barely find them in the Olvie Green color and they just came out.

Gibson is going to capitalize on any artist they can and Chris is a super artist and he will sell them out quickly but for some reason I think of Chris with a guitar and an Acoustic Martin....

Yah but he designed/collaborated on a sweet model with some flare and character. I mean, a bigsby, olive green (love it or hate it it's not run of the mill), and Lollar pickups? This is a value IMO. A Custom Shop Model that is cheaper than many normal production ES335's with all these added third party features. I don't think it matters who's sig it is. It's f-ingsweet!:dude:

I don't know or care how Gibson selects it' artist guitars. What I do know is I love the greenish color on this ES. I got a Bonamassa 335 and love it. Not really a fan of JB but love the guitar. All that matters to me.

Main question is: will he put his new guitar into a rusty case and run?

+1. The olive green version is probably a model you will never see Gibson do another like it. It's definitley not just a stock model they put to a artist and called a signature model. It has it's own flare.

I think they are great regardless of wether it's a Signature model or not. It's also in the same price range as the Dave Grohl ES 335's Gibson did and look at how desirable and sought after they are now.

CC is definitely talented, but I don't get the connection?:hmm:

50+ years ago, most musicians who got sigs, actually PLAYED Gibson guitars! Some, almost exclusively. Today, well, things pretty much speak for themselves.

And, I concur: Henry J/Gibson = completely cluless.

Cornell has played Gibsons forever. How is that not a connection? IMO Cornell makes perfect sense.

The Gibson signature I thought was silly was the Chad Kroeger LP. The guy played nothing but PRS pretty much until PRS told him they had no plans on doing a signature guitar for him. After that he bails to Gibson just to get a signature model.:D

He's a singer/songwriter, he's always played and written his songs. He writes and plays his solo albums too.

Check this out,.. it's in my top 5, "I wish I had written that" song list. Just really powerful and good.
[/I]

^^^ This. He writes great songs and accompanies them well with his guitar. He shines in band and solo environments and puts out great tunes.

If shredding and/or technical chops were requisite for signature models, we'd exclude a lot of music heroes from the mix. Any of the Beatles (great songs, but not technically shreddin' yo), Neil Young and others come to mind in like 3 seconds of consideration. Anyone who likes grunge would be SOL. Lots of blues greats, too. And so on and so forth.

Why the hate on a great singer/songwriter getting a signature guitar deal? So what???

We all know Nickelback blows and the signature guitar for that Frogger guy was such a flop. Had failure written all over it since I don't know or see anyone with it....EVER

Cheryl Crow had a "Cheryl Crow" Gibson acoustic released for sale to the public.

Any signature guitar after that is an improvement.

Got my Chris Cornell ES 335 a few weeks ago (in avatar). Absolutely love it. The Lollartrons sound amazing and the guitar plays, feels, sounds and looks awesome. Was skeptical of the olive green color when they first announced them but it grew on me and looks killer in person. So glad I went with it over the black version.

Will probably do a new guitar day thread with pics in the near future. I usually always wait for the honeymoon phase to end before doing a NGD thread. It's already been several weeks now and this one is definitely a keeper. Would highly recommend this guitar for anyone thinking of getting a ES 335 in the near future before they are all sold.

Personally I respect Chris Cornell a whole bunch so I'm fine with it, even though there are better guitarists out there.

I'm looking forward to a Mike McCready signature LP and a Eddie Vedder signature acoustic though

I agree, thankfully there's still the Aaron Lewis Southern Jumbo for us guys. Let the girls get the Sheryl Crow

It's just a beast of a guitar. Wether Cornell is considered a great guitarist or not IMO Chris and Gibson came together to make a amazing guitar with this model. Considering Chris started out in Soundgarden playing a Les Paul and has played Gibsons throughout his career (with Fenders and Gretschs) I'd say his ties with Gibson aren't something that just popped up recently.

Anyone that has a chance to play one I think would agree. The Lollar humbuckers, Bigsby, fit, finish, tone, feel, playability, etc.. are just awesome. The Lollartrons sound amazing in this guitar. Try one out if you can.

I know alot refer to it as the Gretsch Gibson but I've played many Gretsch guitars and IMO this sounds and plays nothing like a Gretsch. Best purchase I've made in years.

saw Soundgarden when they reformed last year ... they sucked compared to when i saw them in the early 90's. Cornell's voice wasn't what it used to be ... it felt like they were going through the emotions.

Does Cornell deserve a signature model Gibson? About as much as that douche bag from Nickelback does.

IMO any artist that has played Gibson guitars for a long period of their career would deserve a signature model as much as anyone else. Cornell has played Gibsons throughout his 20+ year career. If that's not enough then I personally don't know what the requirements would be. Never heard that there was the requirement of being a lead wanking player to be considered a guitar player or get a signature model.

I guess you would consider Gibson giving Dave Grohl his signature back around 2007 non deserving also since he's very similar to Cornell? Plays rhythm, plays Gibsons and other brands, sings, not a lead guitar player.

I'll agree Gibson has given signature models to alot of artists not really known for Gibson. Stupid moves. IMO Cornell is not one of those wether you like him or not.

calm down, fan-boy ... did I say I didn't like Cornell? Dave Grohl? I didn't mention him!

I love predominantly rhythm guitar players ... I'm one myself.

I just happened to state that Cornell getting a signature Gibson is a bit of a joke ... he's known for his singing, not his guitar playing.
