Current Tokai 's vs. current Gibson LP's.

How would you rate the Tokai LS-98 / 105 / 140 models with current production Gibson models ?

Tokai Guitars <----talking about these !

In other words : these above mentioned Tokai's, with what model Gibsons are they comparable ? (...in your oppinion)

LPJ ? Traditional ? Classic ? Standard ?


Also, is there any Tokai owners that have only Tokai LP's and do not wish to own a Gibson, due to the quality of their Tokai ?


Any info and personal pic's of your Tokai's are very welcome !

Yup.

I'd own a Gibson but it'd have to be a killer Historic and it'd have to come in under $1500.

I have a newer Tokai, so i can't speak as to the older models, but the only Gibson i've played that was comparable to my 2005 LS150 was a very nice $5000 + Custom shop R9. I haven't tried out 1000's of Gibson's though so i have a limited view. Pardon my poor photography.

I've never personally seen a tokai but I agree with this. I have a 2013 standard that has a three piece body. For what you pay its ridiculous. My ESP standard blows away any of my Gibsons in quality.

PS : how is the pick ups in the current models ?

Can one compare them to a modern day pick up we all know ?

Re pickups. I've recently bought a second hand 2008 LS160. I was expecting the pickups to be under par. Having lived with it a few weeks and gigged and rehearsed with it I can conclude the current higher end Tokais are very well equipped. I found the sweet spot for this guitar with my amp etc. Delighted.
They know what they are doing. Buy one, live with it a while before you make any decisions.

Edit. One more thing, mine has P90s. The pickup response improved greatly putting 11 gauge strings on it.

The Tokai LS116/118F has SD pu's but then again I really like those. MK II's in the LS98F and also good sounding, in fact I like them a lot but I like 80's music like Bryan Adams and Heart.

LS-150s recent models are good enough for anyone looking for a LP , a truly professional guitar, well made and with really good sound. I usual have higher Tokai and I am highly glad with them (LS-320 and HLS-360).I got, for direct comparison, time ago a Gibson Yamano USA LP Std 2002 with burstbucker and I sold it and kept Tokai ones ,I felt more comfortable with them(lighter) and though were better sounding to me.
I also owned two Navigators and felt Tokais were better to me so they went out.

i never said a gibson was crappy btw. i just didn't see them as being worth what i spent on them, or what i sold them for.
