I currently have 3 Les Pauls:
1. Gibson Gary Moore BFG
2. Gibson Buckethead Studio
3. Epiphone LP Pro FX (with Floyd Rose)

I'm thinking about getting rid of them all and upgrading to either a Gibson Les Paul Axcess (with Floyd Rose trem) or the new 2012 Gibson Les Paul Standard.
I'd like one great guitar that covers the tonal spectrum instead of 3 or 4.
Should I be happy with what I got, or bite the bullet and shoot for the gold?

2012 standard looks super nice. I can't wait to play one.

What about first buy the new one and then decide what you keep and what must go?
But of course the risk is high that you keep all 4 in the end. :fingersx:

I'd have to sell the 3 in order to get the Axcess.

Tough decisions indeed. Although I love the Axcess with Floyd I prefer keeping LP's with TOM's (I have 20 other floyded guitars. I would go with the new Standard or Traditional. Sell the Gary Moore and the Buckethead, get a Standard or Traditional and keep the Epi so you have a Floyd in your arsenal.

One thing I wouldn't do is sell all 3 to get just 1. Everyone needs more than one single guitar ;)

There are also good reasons for heaving more than one guitar. Not only that even two identical guitars never will really have the exact same sound.
If you have more than one guitar you can easily experiment with different tunings and strings.
If you have to sell all three to get one thats a tough decision.
I think the point is why do you want to swap three to one.
Are you satisfied with what you have now? Than keep them.
If your not satisfied with a guitar there is no reason to keep it.

If it were me I'd get a new 2012 since it is so versatile. Selling guitars is a tricky question for me though. I'm not keen on losing a few hundred dollars on a recent purchase. Wait 10 years and that guitar might get you back what you paid or more if you're lucky. This would mean biting the bullet on a new purchase. If you can get even money out of your guitar, then I'd go for it.

That's what I'm saying. The axcess is really appealing too, but I don't like the finish colors as much as the standard. I am not big on finishes, but the cherryburst on the axcess might be a dealbreaker for me.

First year for the 2012 would be hard to pass up, I wonder how long they will keep it like this. Haven't played one, but I read on this site that someone like the neck. I would think that the neck would be the only real thing that could change anytime soon. The only other addition I would put on mine would be a piezo. If the OP likes tremelo bar, the axcess might be a good choice, but that 2012 looks pretty fine!

Yeah, I don't want to dig myself deeper in debt with a big purchase, I guess I was just thinking to simplify. I sit down and play them and decide. I have a few days left to send back the Buckethead back (if I'm not happy with it). The Gary Moore is a great guitar, but the Busterstbucker 3 pup sounds a little thin for me (I play mostly rhythm and I like a thick sound). The Epi FX, if I were to keep it would get new pups in it. AAAAAAHHHH!

Hmmm, if you play mainly Rhythm, I can't really see the need for a locking trem such as a Floyd Rose - It sounds as though you've only just bought the Buckethead too, as you still have a few days to send it back?
Maybe send it back, then have a good hard think about what you want/need before you end up with another Guitar you're not sure about.

Have you played the one you want. If it feels and sounds better than what you have, do it. If not, keep what you have.

I would do it if it were me. That being said, do you actually uses the features on the buckethead guitar and do you like the extended scale?

You wont get those features on the axcess or new standard.

That's kinda sexy. Why don't they make Studios in a natural finish? Cheap wood?
