I posted a while ago about my Les Paul Custom I got a few weeks ago. I don't know if it's just because Les Pauls are heavy, but I think the balance is off on this guitar. Whenever I play at any kind of angle, the guitar wants to tilt towards the floor, and it's extremely uncomfortable to play.

I included a video just to show what I mean. The first clip is the les paul, when I hold it up at an angle, and let it go, it slides down fast.

The second clip is my strat that I have never had a problem with. When I hold it at an angle and let go, it stays perfectly.

I also just slipped on a really silky shirt just to show the difference. I use the same strap for both guitars.

Is this just because the Les Paul is heavier than the strat, and it has a balance like this? If so, I'm probably going to sell it, because I hate that balance, I like to have my guitars at an angle.

Just a little neck heavy, I have a B.C. Rich just like it. I wouldn't go right to selling it though, if you like the guitar (assuming you do) something like that isn't too big of a deal IMO.

I mean, this isn't a problem with the particular guitar though, right? Like are all LP Customs like this? Or is it my particular guitar is off balance?

Hi, I have a LP Custom too and I do not face this problem.

One way to solve this problem - go shirtless!

I think it's probably something that just varies guitar to guitar, depending on how heavy the wood that is used in each guitar really is. What you could do is maybe go to your local music store, bring your strap, and see if you can find one that is balanced correctly :dude:

Heads Up Strap

What do you think of this? It's kind of expensive, do you think I could just use that method and secure weights to the other end of the strap I'm currently using?

Seems like a good idea! I've never heard of it before, but if it works the way it says it does it sounds like a great solution :)

The distance you have your guitar from your shoulders would make a difference too (from what I've found personally). Try playing with different strap lengths.

I don't have this problem with either of my customs.

Not worth the money for the strap imo. If anything throw some weights into the control cavity and tape them down, that should work.

I dunno. I wouldn't be very happy with it if I had to hold the guitar in that postion to play it. My Lp doesn't do that nor do any of my other guitars.

-Did you try both straps on your Custom? I saw in the video you had two different straps, although they both looked like nylon Ernie Ball straps. Also try a plain wide leather strap. I have a 3 1/2" strap from Clayton that I've had for probably 10 years now. It works great for my bass, my Epi Classic, and my Strats. You should be able to find one at a shop for around $25-$30.

i have the same problem with a thinline telecaster. its really annoying and definitely affects playability. Im guessing is the neck being too heavy which is odd on a les paul being that the body itself is pretty heavy. Dont know what to do, i was going to put a bigsby to make it heavier but its expensive.

Get a good leather strap and you won`t have that problem as bad. The nylong strap you have is slick, so it will slide easier.
