As anyone who has ever tried buying the latest and/or greatest has found out the hard way....

Never buy Rev1 hardware.

there was a thread some years ago about an all new Sandy with finish flaking off in larger spots. The customer's complaint with Gibson Europe resulted in a refinishing of the guitar IIRC. It was done by one of Gibson's contract/authorized luthiers here in Germany

What happened to the days folks just took a long neck cap and scraped the top all up and called it relic'd... A long neck is just a couple of bucks in most bars and they'll let you keep the bottle cap....

No gravel roads to drag em down now?

What is this world coming to....

People who buy “heavy aged” guitars complaining about them “aging” too quickly. Unreal.

Ok can you think of anything original to say? That comment was only made 100 times already.

If you took the time to read the posts and understand what happened you might not make such a dumb comment. Really good business plan to piss off a bunch of people by the way.

I’ve taken Organic chemistry; I’ve read books on polymer chemistry. I work with spraying Nitrate dope and Butyrate dope. These finishes are delicate and tricky to work with. If not treated correctly, they will fail. It is the owners fault: minimum; they need to acclimate... otherwise, use dead polyurethane.

ridiculous. What does it matter if you’ve taken organic chemistry (I have too like 16 years ago)? I guaran fuckin tee you that letting the guitar “acclimate” for 5 hours would have exact ZERO effect on poor craftsmanship. After all Gibson’s initial response suggested faulty pore filler.

It really is amazing that this guy still has his job.

"It's a few isolated cases, and it's the customers' fault for not properly acclimating the instrument."

@calieng what do you think? No mention at all of pore filler or anything else on Gibson's end. This stinks of classic corporate damage control.

Yea, when in doubt blame the customer. Brilliant marketing!

Maybe I'm the only one but I find it at least a little amusing that Gibson offers an aged guitar that ages itself rapidly & people don't want it.

If they advertised "rapid natural antiquing" or some other BS I think some of the same people complaining would have paid another $5k more for it lol

I admit I'm not a fan of "The Lab" in general though. It just seems over exploited & I still haven't seen one that looks like an old guitar to me.

My experiences with both Matt Koehler and Marc Agnesi, while limited to social media, have always been positive.

On the other hand, Cesar Gueikian, who I liked at first, has been a dick.

So, I give Matt and Marc a pass until they prove differently to me.

To his credit, Cesar claimed responsibility for the play authentic fiasco. And this has his corporate stamp all over it, too.

I have never interacted with JC. Others say he is positive and cool.

Either way, this is a corporate position, not a personal one. Marc and Matt are just the ones stuck out front to take the beating.

Gibson f***ed up the finish, now they are f***ing up the corporate response.

Nice going. Dicks.

all of this relicing as I have said in so many words has come full circle to bite you in the ass .this type of finishing is absurd, your finish will weather as you use the instrument I personally dont see any beauty in an instrument that looks like it drug behind a 53 ford pickup truck down a gravel road they dont sound or play any better if your going to make changes do it for the better , not just to change.

It would be hard to write a worse response if you tried.
As I read the article, I thought, oh, he must just be the ES guy and I can see him being overly sensitive to temp swings. Nope, Senior Director of Product Development. He's over all of them. Boggles the mind. These aren't Epiphones being bought by the unwashed masses. He blames his whales, many that buy every year, sometimes multiples.
Seems like a nice kid that does love guitars, but he's seriously going to wipe the snot from his nose and tell someone like Slubowski that he doesn't know how to treat a guitar.
Oof
