I just ordered a new Firebird and I've noticed that they always seem to be sold out everywhere online. They also seem to go for pretty high used prices, but there's relatively little discussion about them on the boards. Any fans here? I figured it would be something different that buying another LP.

Are you buying a Firebird V with the banjo tuners? If so, this model has been discontinued and replaced with another model Firebird V that has Steinberger tuners instead. Probably a lot of folks waiting for those since they are some of the first to come out since the flood.

I've got a Firebird, had it since I was a kid. It's a great guitar, but I don't know if it'll become my number one guitar. I love mine a lot more since Greg put a Rio Grande Babybucker in the bridge.

Yes I bought the one with Steinberger's. It supposed to ship in July. I'm hoping it helps with the neck dive that I've head so much about. Dan do you play yours sitting or mosty standing?

You've got a nice Gibson collection and a cute dog to boot.

Thanks, man, I appreciate that. Paddington has the knack for sneaking into photos.

I typically play sitting down because of the neck dive. The Steinberger tuner mod is a bit more invasive for a banjo-tuner equipped Firebird, so I'm weary of making the switch as this guitar has sentimental value to me.

Essentially, the Firebird is a beautiful guitar with beautiful form, but the neck is placed out farther than most guitars and it's a major adjustment to get used to.

i have firebird GAS like crazy.I love the shape and body style.

ive been buying too many SG's to save up enough to buy a 'bird. They seem to be pretty exclusive on the vintage market; some are pretty dang pricey.

Man, I'd love a firebird.

Its just totally cool.

I know what you mean about them being hard to find, especially in the UK, and especially if you want the vintage burst finish which is the only one to have imho :naughty:

I believe the 2011 Firebird V's are likely to arrive in the shops later this year.

Will be hard to resist:)

I agree the vintage sunburst is my favorite. I could have bought a black used one but decided to wait.

The cases are huge and the pickups are bright. These guitars aren't for everyone.

good point- I've always really lusted after a reissue of the firebird that came with P90's (three of them if I remember correctly).

These would be darker sounding / warmer sounding than the mini humbuckers I'm thinking.

As a former owner of both an RD and an Explorer, I just don't like the Fire/Thunderbird's. I don't know why. They just look strange to me.

I allways wanted a Firebird, so 2 years ago I said WTF and I bought a brand new 2009 Firebird V.
Mods to date : CTS 500K pots all around. Russian military PIO's, Black Steinberger tuners, straplocks and a set of SD SM-1 mini HB's. It's a shame you got to spend an extra ~ $250.00 to get a new $1600 guitar gig worthy.
Now she screams and turns heads where ever I take her.
As mentioned the case is large enough to serve a full dinner to a couple of people on. The case is awkward and clumsy, but you got no other choice if you have a 'bird. I agree w/ member Dan, I doubt if she'll ever by my #1.
Here's a pic of mine surounded by a couple sisters:thumb:

I think for me I'm just looking for some different tones. I have an LP traditional and an SG Classic. Instead of going for another LP I thought why not try something different. Thanks guys for posting pics. And I agree that I don't know if it would ever be my number one but I play mostly at home and it's nice to try something different.

I love them but the maple laminate neck makes them so neck heavy! Doug Kauer makes a good version that doesnt have that neck heavy problem and doesnt sound as thin and jangly. I like his version more, got to play one over the weekend and i loved it!
