I used to own two firebirds at different times. I unloaded both for different reasons, but always loved them. So now I will have some bonus cash from work and would like to try to find used bird for around $1200.00. I used to sell Gibsons at a dealer and I feel that is reasonable. He is my question. I look at new and they are around 15 to 16 hundred. I see used on ebay, like 2000's or 05's and they are asking around the same ballpark. Is 1200 unreasonable? They are kind of a "love them or hate them" type guitar so I would assume they are not that in demand. Just wanted some feedback. Thanks in advance for any responses and or help.

When I was looking at Firebirds, I planned on buying one used like I usually do with guitars. I was surprised to find that the prices of the used ones were just about the same as the brand new ones.

And I wanted the locking tuners, and the Tune-O-Matic bridge, and this put the new ones over the top for me.

I hope you find one... I eventually just got a brand new one, and it rocks.

Come on, Brian-you won't be able to rock "Train Kept a Rollin'" on a Firebird!

I love my FB1. I paid $425 for my last FBV (in 98) in brand new condition. Should've held on to that one. I noticed the same thing with the used ones-they've shot up.

$1200 is reasonable, but on the lower side of reasonable. $1300-$1400 is more the going rate. Hold out and you'll get one.

Thanks for all the input. And to Serial, Joe Perry is the reason I always wanted one. So Train Kept a Rollin will be cranked out on the new bird. Oh and Paul Stanley on Alive I too. I feel 13 to 14 is dooable, just gotta find one at that price. I just cant see spending new pricing on used gear. Thanks again.

And while they're not necessarily that desirable or sought after, there's also not a whole lot of them out there.

Gotta check you guys out again soon. Can't complain-reason I never get to see other bands is because I'm gigging myself. New Year's resolution...!

1200 seems reasonable, but gibson has mde changes that might make the older one a bit pricey....they put a nashville on in 06-07IRRC and the whole fretboard debacle might have driven up the pricesI have 2 a 91 I got about 8 years ago for 700.00 and just picked up a 76 with a headstock repair for 1500.00. IMO not quite a 60 birds but they are a LOT nicer than the modern USA/CS production. The prices are extreme, you have a limited market so there are desperation sales....no one wants the dam thing or you have guys dying to get one. GC seems to have them at good prices used and Guitar Shows seem to have a good supply at pretty good prices.

I paid way too much for mine used, but it was mint and I really wanted it. I paid $1700 for this which I will never get out of it. I was offered $1250 for it the other day but turned it down. I may put this on CL at $1400 and see if anyone bites. Anyway, good luck on your search.
