Hi,

I have a Les Paul reissue which needs a repair on the headstock. It has a lacquer problem and I think that the headstock must be re-lacquered and a new "Les Paul Model" logo should be transfer with the silk screen again. I contacted the Gibson Custom Shop repair center in the USA and they say:

*DUE TO SHIPPING ISSUES AND CUSTOMS, WE CANNOT ACCEPT/SHIP INTERNATIONAL REPAIRS. WE SUGGEST CONTACTING A GIBSON CUSTOMER SERVICE REPRESENTATIVE AT 1-800-444-2766 EXT. 1 TO FIND A SERVICE CENTER IN YOUR AREA*

My question is now, there is not an official Gibson Custom repair shop in Europe. Isn’t it?

There is, someone should be able to tell you, did you call the customer service # (I don't know if that will work for you) But there are defintaly repair shops available in Europe

No I didn't call them.

I thought only the Gibson repair Custom Shop in USA could do this job. I don`t want to sent this guitar to any repair shop in Europe.

Anyway I'll write them a e-mail.

Thanks you guys!

There will be luthiers in Europe who are authorised to do the work on behalf of Gibson I would imagine.

What exactly is wrong with the guitar? If you post pics and a good description then you might get some more advice.

My single experience with returning a Gibson under warranty for repair was dreadful. I went via the dealer in Germany, and lord knows who the "authorised Gibson luthier" was, but the guitar came back to me in worse shape than it was before. IMHO - possibly a waste of time and effort, depending on what the issue is.

How long have you owned the guitar and was it new when you bought it?

I have sent a couple of Reissues back to the Custom Shop in the past...it can be about three months until you get it back but worth it if they do a perfect repair...but a Reissue of mine got a headstock break by Fedex during transit and another Reissue of mine came back with a couple of new marks/dents on it?

Which in my experience might be a big if.

Same here - took months for me to get the guitar back, with more problems than it had in the first place. If I'd known I'd just have paid my local, trusted guitar tech to do the job and have it done straight away. Not worth the aggravation unless the issue is very serious.

Hi thank you all for answers. But I don´t want to discuss about this particularly guitar on the public forum. The job to do, is the mentioned on the top of the thread.

My first intention was to send it to the Custom Repair Shop in Nashville, but I received this refusal. I also wrote an e-mail to Gibson Europe, but I didn’t receive an answer up to now.

Why send a email when they gave you a phone number to call?

I think you're supposed to pursue warranty issues through the dealer you bought the guitar from, assuming that you bought it new. If not, then you have no warranty.

Further bad news: Outside of the US, the warranty is only good for one year.

Send the guitar to Gibson if you want a HUGE repair bill, and are willing to wait months for them to do the repair.

Why you want to send the guitar to Gibson specificly? Theres a whole bunch of people out there in the EU that can do the repair just as good or better than Gibson, faster and cheaper.

Also, is it just a laquer issue? Im not very fond of repairing cosmetic damage.

If you dont give us some more details on the issue that need repairing, im afraid all we can help you with is give you the Gibson EU telephone number and whish you best of luck

Hmm So if you do not want to discuss it here why post in the first place. WE are a font of knowledge, but so be it. Hope it works out. Bye now.

I posted to find more information about the existence of a custom shop repair center in Europe, not to talk or discuss about the problem on the guitar. Please read the first post!

Thanks a lot again for the information.
