Yep, those LPJ's feel pretty good, don't they! :thumb: I thought the SGJ's felt a little weak compared to the LPJ, but for the price there not bad gutiars at all.

I still vote you get the HT-40, a great little combo amp. :dude:

So.....need to reboot the search. After trying several tube amps that didn't wow me enough upgrade my Fender Mustang, I went to GC to poke around. I had the fortunate mistake of grabbing one of the new Gibson LPJs....and it felt really good. IMO it is extremely close to the Gibson Studios electronics wise and quality wise. The LPJ was 699 and the Studio next to it was 1150. No brainer. Satin finish felt good on the neck.

So I had them price match the MF $100 buckls off $500 purchase, and traded in the Chinese Epi Les Paul Studio Deluxe.

So I placed an order for a new Gibson LPJ in rRubbed Satin White and walked out the door with $450 out of pocket. Now $450 bucks for a USA made Gibson with dual humbucks seems like a screaming deal to me.

I will reboot the amp search targeting maybe lower end and defintely in the 20-30 watt range. The DSL50 is just too much I think. Front runners include

Blackstar HT40 combo
Jet City 22
Vox NT
Marshall DSL201
Genz Benz El Diablo....if I ever see one I can demo.

Thanks for all the help and suggestions

I would also say to not forget possible tube or speaker swaps for an amp you choose. If there is something specific you don't like - flabby low end or whatever - maybe try another speaker. Also I'd go used if at all possible. It open up the range considerably and will help get you a better value.

Oh and HNGD!

I did check out Carvin and the should have mentioned the V3M is on the list. Again, scarce and hard to find. I will be buying used and really want to demo before I buy. Same issue with the Genz Benz.

Especially like the V3M head but its pushing the price envelope...especialyl with the LPJ on the way.

Even a 10 watt Fender Princeton is pretty dang loud cranked. For what you describe, I'd be thinking in the 20 watt range. A Fender Deluxe Reverb with a good dirt pedal is worth checking out imo.

Sorry if this has been mentioned (work has me a bit frazzled right now, but never too much to not get my MLP fix :cool2: ) but have you checked out the Haze series?

Super cheap anymore, either new or used. I had one for awhile, needed more gain for my tastes (I tend towards metal) but it had a great sound to it. I could take or leave the effects, but hey, there if you need them.

I know it's a rather frowned upon amp but I really liked mine.

So I thought I would ressurect this thread. A used DSL50 head just hit my local GC used section. With the broken reverb the head is only $500. Decent deal but I am still concerned about volume. I will try to get out and try it in the store, but its hard to get a good feel playing in the store.

So volume wise (assuming in am in crunch mode 90% of the time) is it too much for basement jamming and small gigs? I also don't think I could get away with a 1x12 so I would have another $400 in a 2x12 easily which kinda sucks.

I was just getting to be settled in on the dsl40c again staying n green crunc hmode for almost everything with some solos on the red channel with With a coupon its $600. The $500 head is tempting.

For volume reference, I have a 40W Mustang II and I'm using maybe %80 of its volume to keep up with the band....especially since the PITA guitar guy returned who is known for volume creep.

I just can't retuern the used items and am afraid of the volume. Could maybe tame it with a 1x12 or 2x12 but that is getting up there in price since I could wait and get the DSL40C for $500-$600 around black friday.

I've got a Marshall DSL40C, and I couldn't be happier with it.
I'm not a metal guy - I'm more into old school overdrive and crunch, and this thing delivers.
The ability to run it at 20 or 40 watts, along with the other features it has over the 6v6 powered 15C made it a no-brainer for me - especially for only a hundred bucks more.
It'll run an extra cab too, if that's important to you.

With some good PAF's, it's classic rock heaven.

If you intend to mic your cab gave a look at the Marshall SL5, supposed to be excellent for the music you mentioned.
