Very cool. I never even considered an experiment like that.

EEF13, the best comparison I can make is that it is fat and nasty like my Don Mare 0038 without the hum, and always a head turner.

Since I had bought both pickups for $20 I figured it would be an interesting experiment.

One thing I did was to use the Tonezone coil with the studs to be the active coil when shunted since that would allow for a little more bass based on its position relative to the strings.

I had it in my SG for a bit, but I started missing my 496R/A4 in that guitar, so I put it back in. I just don't have enough guitars for all my pickups :laugh2:

I asked Curtis Novak about what would happen say if you merged a Mosrite with something completely different like a TV Jones or a P90 and he said it wouldn't sound that great if the pickup specs are very different from each other.

They've been doing this awhile over there at SD Forum. It's a great idea -- in a bridge pickup (which is almost always how it's used) it's best if the slug coil comes from the higher output pu.

I love blind links posted without any introduction or explanation. Just how lazy can you be? :hmm:

Hint: I don't follow them. Take ten seconds to explain why you are posting them. kthxbye.

I did that once out of necessity with Dimarzio pickups. I had a double cream Super Dist and a double black Super II. Each had a bad coil. I did the same thing by taking the good coil from each and combining them. Sounded great, like a Super Dist but with more treble (from the Super II.) Also I now had a "zebra" pickup that sounded great in my Les Paul in the bridge position.
