This should be something that the "Other Les Paul" folks should be able to help out with.

A game, if you will, and here's the ground rules.

The poster above you has a model listed (with the price) of a new Gibson or Epiphone Les Paul model. Your challenge.....find either a guitar for the same amount of money that blows the Gibson or Epiphone out of the water, or post a guitar that has most of the features at a reduced cost. Keep the colors consistent within reason (ie, if it's a burst, post a guitar with a burst), and if there's extra bells and whistles, plan for adding the necessary costs for upgrades.

Once you've posted an answer, then you go ahead and post a Gibson or Epiphone Les Paul model and see if the poster after you can find a Les Paul out there using the same metrics.

I'll go ahead and start...

Gibson Les Paul Faded Studio (On sale!) for 849.00 at musician's friend...

Gibson Les Paul Studio Faded Maple Top Electric Guitar Features:

Carved maple top with faded finish, mahogany back
Mahogany neck
Rosewood fingerboard
Tune-o-matic/stopbar

498T Alnico magnet humbucker
2 volume, 2 tone, 3-way switch controls
Black speed knobs
Tulip tuners
Gibson Les Paul Studio Faded Maple Top Electric Guitar Includes:

Gibson Hardshell Case

........

Is there any "other Les Paul" model I can get for about the same price with more stuff on it, or with this type of stuff on it for less?

The defining feature on that one is the faded finish. I don't think anyone other than Gibson is doing that. Rondo has some matte finished bolt-on and used to have a matte AL/LP, but it was an ash top not maple.

Edwards 98-LTS. You can pick them up for $784.00 plus shipping and they do blow away any studio.

Hahaha. Already delving into the Custom Shop, eh? :naughty:

Sure...no problemo.

Since you're going with a Reissue, I will offer a guitar that was MADE in the same factory as the original '60 LP (225 Parsons Street, Kalamazoo, MI) for a fraction of the cost.

These typically go for at the MOST 3.500 USD new. You can typically find them for less than 2000 on Ebay...

Also: For 6 thousand dollars, you could probably hire a luthier to make you any style of guitar you wanted with nearly any kind of wood or other material utilized within reason.

Agile AL-2000, currently out of stock, approx. $200. Pictured with Gold hardware, but I think you can get them in chrome as well. Rosewood board like the Epi, or step up to a 3100 for ebony with abalone or MOP inlays.

How about this?

Nice custom....new, those go for 3,899 dollars or more. Gibson also no longer offers them in that color. And if it's a Norlin...well, those models are kind of special....

Anyways...here's the closest I could find in terms of a guitar (and something with a natural scheme) that might blow the doors off of a custom or at least hold water for a lot less money...

The Gretsch Chet Atkins solid body electric for 2400 from Sweetwater. I think I could also go back to Heritage, or select Hamer or Paul Reed Smith for some fine competitors (even in a single cutaway), but the Custom is iconic...so I'll match one icon with another....

JT08010236-body-l.jpg

Though Gretsch is most famous for their hollowbody guitars, one shouldn't overlook their line of classic solidbodied instruments. The Chet Atkins Solid Body sports a chambered body crafted from select mahogany, a one piece "Action Flow" mahogany neck, and Gretsch "rocking" bar bridge. Electronically, the Solid Body has Filter'Tron pickups and a Bigsby B3 provides the classic vibrato sound that's synonymous with Gretsch guitars.

Good luck with this one. Sorry for not putting up pics but it is only a click away.

Balls just read the rules again...it was the Norlin that threw me. I'm not playing too confusing.

Cool, Uita. :D I knew sometimes finding that Black Beauty in another brand can be a tough challenge. Right on!

(As for the rules....as long as you find something close it's ok. It doesn't have to be the exact color, or have the exact pickups. Just a model of better value in one way or another that looks similar. The Norlins were tougher for me because I own one of those...and I'm soft on 'em. I also threw some extra cowbell into my answer because although this thread is kind of a knock on Gibson and Epiphone Les Pauls, that Gibson Les Paul Custom is an iconic guitar. So...had to find something similar or at least somewhat iconic in a similar vein. The only thing that leaped out at me was that Chet Atkins model since it was a solid body, and he's just as big an icon as Paul is. I also felt that the Bigsby compensated for any additional issues with h/w.

Also, I will admit that finding alternatives to used guitars is a lot tougher, and personally I don't believe those aren't a bad deal at all as used guitars tend to be. Anyways...)

Damn....

I could not find anything in...pink. Other than a slew of Hello Kitty guitars modded to meet this challenge. I concede to UITA.

NOOOO!!!!! should have been more clearer, not only was my LP pink but more importantly it was a thinner bodied model.
