Is it normal for a LP to feel body heavy?
My old Epi LP has always been very well balanced, I can sit down on a chair and play it and it feels great, never body or neck heavy, very well balanced.
My new R8 seems slightly body heavy, the neck wants to rock up in the air and the guitar wants to slide off of my leg if I am not careful. The guitar only weighs 9lbs, so it is not the heaviest LP in the world. So is this balancing act normal for an actual Gibson LP.

Thanks guy's, I thought maybe I had a freak of nature on my hands. LOL

Funny thing is, I don't know if it is me or what, but I swear this thing sounds better now than it did a month ago when I bought it! Seems brighter and has even more sustain.
Maybe they do actually break in or something?

I'd say rather body heavy than neck heavy. Neck heavy irritates me to no end.

I think the fact that it sounds better to you now than when you bought it is testament to the fact that you've bonded with the guitar, which is very cool when it happens.

You don't want either of those two things the other way round...

Lower it so it hangs down to your knees and the neck will be in the right position. The best part is you will look really cool:slash:

I can't play for crap sitting down and the LP's are the worst. I can't for the life of me keep the damn thing on my leg.

LMAO

This is new to me as every guitar I own except this one seems to be perfectly balanced.
If I use a strap it is just fine, and standing playing with a strap is also fine, just sitting with no strap is where the annoyance comes into play.
It's not terrible, just enough to bug me a little, not like it jumps out of my lap or anything. :laugh2:

I had Traditional Plus top that was really purdy, BUT it was body heavy and I constantly felt like I was grabbing the neck while playing and balancing it on my leg. I sold it and bought a Custom and it's much better. LP's aren't the greatest for overall balance, but each guitar is different.

I think we're gonna need some photos.
EDIT: I just realised there is one.

Try putting the curve on the bottom on your left knee instead of the right.
Like a classical guitar posture. LP is like a lady. They like to be cradled on your lap.
