Hi Folks,

I picked up my first Marshall last week. We're still warming up to each other. Things are going along swimmingly. ;-)

Just wanted to get some ideas from other 1974x users regarding jumping the two channels, as well as any other tricks you might have learned.

Love the amp so much, I may get a second. For those gigs when 18 watts just ain't enough.

Thanks in advance!

The trick for most marshalls is to just crank that jewel up.

Turn every knob to 10, except the tremolo, which you may tweak to your liking...

Does anybody jump the two channels together? Do you "mix" the two channels together? What mix do you like?

THanks,

Jumping the channels will give you an "out-of-phase" tone. Some like it, some don't. Usually an OD pedal in series with the jumper cable will "set" it back into phase. Experiment with it. :)

I use a shorted plug in the trem. pedal jack so I don't haveta use the pedal. Eliminates the oscillation.

assuming you are lucky enough to have a les paul, get a good A/B switch and you can spend hours going between two inputs and turning down your volume knobs...kind of crazy how many different colors there are in a such a simple amp.

One thing to remember with this amp is that the tone pots filter out treble when you turn them down past half way and filter out bass when you turn them up past half way. That means to get bass and treble at "10" you actually need to set the tone at 5.

I really like the out of phase tone you get from jumping the 2 channels together. Plug into the vibrato channel and jump that to normal and that will let your tremolo volume work like a treble volume and your normal will work like a bass volume. Your tone knobs with act like notch filters so that you can get a more modern sounding "scooped" tone.

Thanks for all the tips, guys. I've had a little quality time with her and so far, it's a love that's true.

Rockmonkey, the tip that getting both treble and bass at 10 means the tone control needs to be at 5 was a real eyeopener.

Really lovin' the hotter input on the Tremolo channel. My R8 w/Fillmores on Rhythm is just so glassy and sweet. Just work the volume and tone pots on the R8 to find all the colors. Sah-WEET! I still want to experiment with jumping the two channels.

I think I'll need an attenuator, though. Can't get over how LOUD this amp is!

Thanks again, everyone.

Consider yourself lucky, I was always kinda bummed at how loud mine is...
I think that if they were 30 watts, they would be perfect... :dude:

Sssshhh..... don't tell my wife...................

But I bought a second one off the Bay, for those gigs when one just isn't enough. It should arrive by Friday. Mi esposa will be away all day Saturday and I plan to see how loud two 1974Xs will get. ;-)

^try different tubes. Not a different brand or anything, it's just that sometimes a tube rattles and the only way to fix it is to swap it out.

I recently got a 1974x clone (head version) and have found that jumping channels AND using a Fulltone OCD pedal in front of it is just a great match together....with enough experimenting you can get all those juicy tones....Page-Gibbons-Humble Pie.....etc. Also, another thing I tried and came out with great results is to have a mix of speakers in the same cab...in my case I have a Peavey TripleX and an Eminence Texas Heat in my open back cab....it's killer. And playing a 2005 Les Paul Standard through this set up....I'm in TONE heaven.

If you like reverb you can use one set 100% wet between the channels when you jumper. The reverb level won't be loud enough to distort since it will be using it's own channel.FWIW though,I ussualy just plug into the normal channel set to 10 & go.To me the great thing about these amps is the simplicity (mine's a clone though btw).No need for pedals or attenuator, you'll likely find all the tones you need on your guitar. If I'm gonna hook up all the other stuff I may as well use my plexi.
