It's time for the government to stop trying to please these spoiled children and to do whatever they have to to put an end to this crap.

Non means Non. Wake up PQ, the rest of the Country is tired of your tantrums.

Then you're correct about me being influenced by the media. The last reports I heard the budget shortfall had gone from 2 billion to around 8.But all I've got to go on is the media.

Well, you need a different media source, then. The shortfall when Brown took office was $21 billion, not $2 billion.

We're still in a shitheap of financial trouble, but the problem is more intransigence in our legislature; neither side is willing to compromise in order to address the issues.

And don't forget the citizen's referendums and ballot initiatives...direct democracy is a motherf*cker.:thumb:

When its misapplied it is yeah.

State governments have to balance budgets. For every referendum there should have been listed a specific way to pay for it... earmarked funds, through taxes, bonds, or whatever.

Otherwise direct democracy works just fine.

Our representatives are selling us out blind.... that isn't working.

Yeah, it's a lot more complex than non-residents seem to think.

The public here seems to share the thought that services don't really need to be paid-for. One thing that Brown has done is that he's brought a sense of reality back to budget discussion that seemed pretty absent from his predecessor, by insisting that new proposals be funded. He hasn't been successful in many cases, but he's trying, and deserves credit for having the balls to say unpopular things instead of promising voters the Moon.

He does some stupid stuff, sure, but bruiting him about as evidence of "them thar loony Californians" is not very different than them crazy Yoorpeeans hating America because of Dubya.

City of Bell; they all got voted out of office for it, and are facing a variety of criminal charges for fraud and embezzlement. :laugh2:

I'm gonna disagree with Thumper; we're all insane, and extremely dangerous. The sensible thing to do is petition your congressmen and senators to have California excommunicated from the US. We don't deserve be a part of your country; kick us out already. :thumb:

Yeah, the population has been hold steady and at times declining, which is probably a good thing.

As far Bell, the city that was getting raped by the politicians, it's an urban locale, with an average household income well below normal state levels. The officials did a bang-up job of flying their corruption under the radar.

I'm not sure what its problems have to do with this discussion, though. My point was not the ins and outs of local issues here, rather, that you're waving around stereotypes. It's no big deal, either way. If you're happy reading sources which misstate stuff by a factor of ten in order to pander to a political demographic, that's your business. Don't let me stop you.

But when you do wave your stereotypes around, don't expect a free pass.

I'll make a deal with you guys....We'll trade you Quebec for California. :)

We're thinking about trading California to Mexico for 4 cases of top shelf tequila, a couple dozen tamales and some Tecate...what does Quebec have to offer?

Funny, I contacted Mexico about trading them Texas for a hot dog and they said that was too much to ask.

A hotdog? Texas isn't going anywhere unless they throw in some nachos or something. :laugh2:

Well nothing except a great sense of entitlement and some historical buildings so a straight across trade probably isnt doable. But if the Tequila deal happens can I suggest 1 bottle of that and 4 tamales for Quebec? Its a win-win if you consider the land area in Quebec only.

Cute video about Americas corporate greed, too bad it isnt translated and directed to French Canadians...

Below is taken from Dept of Finance Canada website, BC, Alberta and Sask now have as many seats ( rep by pop ) as Quebec in the Parlaiment yet they only get $10.8B combined. Ever deal with a Quebec company in a contract? Think back door deal , old boys club or fraud. I wont tell you what Quebec pays into the transfer payments because I'll just get mad.
Federal Support to Quebec

In 2012-13, the Government of Quebec will receive $17.4 billion through major transfers (Canada Health Transfer, Canada Social Transfer and Equalization) and direct targeted support – an increase of $5.3 billion from 2005-06.
Major Transfers

In 2012-13, the Government of Quebec will receive $17.2 billion in major transfers, accounting for about 25 per cent of its revenues in that year.

I don't know how I stumbled upon this thread, but man is it a joke reading everybody's opinion on something they don't have a clue what it is all about.

Quebec is in a similar situation as your American natives are. A minority in a sea of ... call it what you want. Language is the tip of the iceberg. The culture in Québec is the opposite extreme of English Canada. Couldn't be farther apart. But being a minority, we were told over and over and still are, to speak white.

Québec wants to manage its social needs the way it sees fit. Ask any anglo Canadian with a minimal sense of empathy, that lived in for a while Québec, if he thinks that it should just shut up and conform. Québec is different in as many ways as you could imagine, and it won't change.

The student demonstration was a thing of beauty, supported by a majority of citizens. Finally a new generation that demands to be heard, that dare to oppose the establishment with their stupid laws. A wind of freshness blew across the land and showed that our youngs are more than a bunch of spoiled iPhone brats. They have showed us what we can achieve if we put our minds to it.

Power to the young people.
