My daughter had a neighbor with a tree. A big, huge fucking tree. A big, huge, fucking tree that dropped those ugly black seed pods on her lawn all the time. A big, huge fucking tree that dropped those ugly black seed pods all the time on her lawn, and the shade from it's canopy killed all the grass in a 25' circle,

It was planted about 18" from the property line, so a lot of it overhung her property.

She asked the neighbor if he would consider removing it and he (very impolitely) told her words to the effect of, "It's my tree and my right to have it on my property."

She called a tree service and had them cut down every inch of every branch on that big, huge fucking tree that overhung "HER" property.

The tree died. Awww... too bad.

The neighbor sued her. Obviously, the neighbor lost in court, and my daughter sued the neighbor for costs and punitive damages. She won. And, the damages more than paid for her costs to "trim" the tree.

Moral of the story? Don't be a fucking asshole neighbor.

My parents had a really nice vegetable garden for years, then the neighbor planted trees along their property line. In a few years the trees were big enough to block much of the sunlight to my folk's garden. The garden could no longer grow plants. Nothing could be done about it. Life goes on.

some of you guys are real jackasses. some of you guys are more reasonable. trees that are on someone else's property and don't threaten to damage your house are none of your goddam business. tree on someone else's property drops fruit and leaves onto yours? that's what trees do. build a bridge and get over yourself. imagine living in a residential neighborhood with no trees that stand above the average roofline in the neighborhood; nothing but houses as far as you can see, just like a human Serengeti. what an oppressive place to live day in and day out.

OP's neighbor needs to shut her pie hole. The trees were there before they were. It's like the asshole that moves next to the train tracks and then writes letters to the city clowncil complaining about the noise every week. STFU, karen.

I'm dealing with clearing out my Mom's house after she passed away in December. There's a huge maple in the backyard that has just been sited as a historic tree as it's considered one of the oldest trees in Connecticut. The son of the owners of the house next door who is also going through an estate settlement told me he wanted me to pay to trim the branches on their side of the fence (the tree is right on the property line and is split 1/2 and 1/2, and has always been dealt with that way with his parents). In checking 1) in Connecticut what's on your property is your problem and 2) as it's a historic tree we are forbidden from cutting anything that's not dead. So I responded and very politely explained that we can't touch that tree. I could smell the smoke coming out of his ears in the response email

Here's a picture of me in front of that tree when I was about 7 jamming out on my first Kay.

People that plant trees along a property line are either :

a. ) Not wanting anyone on the outside to be able to look inside
b. ) Not wanting to see what's on the other side

In residential areas, there may be few options for where a tree can actually be planted (limited other space, underground utilities or other blockages).

I live in a rural area. I have planted a lot of trees, and had to take down some of the "natural" ones. ( And I have not once, but twice dug up the phone lines !)
I have two neighbors that have planted "Tree Screens" (Understand that this is Acreage, i.e. huge lots)
#1 is the Nudist Colony, that has been there since the 50's. OK, we understand the "Screen" need.
#2 is the neighbor to the immediate left of the Nudist Colony. His screen is to block his house FROM the Nudist Colony !

Out here, pretty much everyone has their own chain saw, and takes responsibilities for what's on their own property.

This shit is why I live in an HOA governed community. Fucking bubbas can't park their RV's in the street, or have their boats covered with blue tarps stored in the driveway. They can't paint their houses stupid colors, or hang all kinds of bullshit on the side of it. Landscaping must be "appropriate". And, lawns must be kept mowed and maintained, all year long. All plantings over 10' must be approved by the HOA, and anything that even appears to be an encroachment on a neighbor is forbidden.

We value our properties and our way of life. It's not for everyone. We all knew what we were getting when we signed the papers. We are here because we want to be here. No one complains. It's nice coming through the gates and leaving the uncivilized world behind.

Many people hate this lifestyle. They want to live like Jed Clampett. That's OK. Just do it somewhere else.

As was said, give em an inch and they will take a mile. Told a neighbor once that he could park a car in my yard if he needed to. All of a sudden there are 3-4 cars there all the time. Woke up one morning to a full sized rv set up complete with awning, chairs and a grill going.

Yeah the thing is, it really sucks when cars that are just sitting there spontaneously combust. :naughty:

If anything have the canopy thinned by someone who knows what they are doing. Otherwise ignore her.

"Like to see some marigolds along the fence there; I'll buy them, you can put them in. How would that be? Good, good."

I went over to the neighbors to let them know I would be painting the cap on my brick fence that separates our property. I need to access it by ladder from his property. It is in his best interest to be cool about it- which he was.

While talking with him, his wife butted in— wants us to trim our trees— which block their evening sun.

Point at her and go, "Men are speaking!"

I bet she's White Wimmenz,.. .they love to butt in :laugh2:

I'm kidding don't do that,... I mean that would be awesome,... but probably not a good idea. ... but still it would be awesome. :laugh2:

it's bad for most trees to top them. just tell her you like your trees the way they are.

she could always move somewhere else.
