Hi:wave:
I want to upgrade my Bc rich mockingbirds pickups and im wondering if a pair of Seymour duncan hotrodded(JB/JAZZ) set will work in it. Im going to split the pickups and i have a mahogany body and a maple top with a neckthrough maple neck with an ebony fretboard.
Since these materials are quite bright and trebly my question is: Will a Sd hotrodded set work in it or will i get an icepicky sound from them and if so. Are there any other pickups that you would recommend?

Thanks in advance:)

Mod the JB with an A8 and you should be fine.

Thank you for answering:thumb:
Ive never thought of swapping out the magnets but where can i get one and is it hard to change the magnets?
The Seymour duncan website suggested that you could use 250k pots to smooth out the treble but would that be enough considering that I am going to do a coil-split.

If it is getting a ear biting treble then swap the cap to a .047 instead of the .022 that is already in there. Yes the mag swap is real simple. just loosen the 4 bottom screws heat the base plate with a lighter to melt the wax and slide the mag out. You will also need to get either a compass or a polarity checker to find north and south and slide the new mag in. takes about 5 minutes. For single bar mags addictionfx.com has them for like 2.50

Dimarzio Super Distortion in the bridge
Dimarzio PAF in the neck

That is The vintage BC Rich setup. It was never broken and should not be fixed.

Well Ive never liked dimarzios cuz of their boosted mids and they unfortunately dont have the clarity that Im looking for.

Somebody mentioned Mockingbird? I'm here! :D

Anyways, tell us what kinda tone you're going after; an example or artist reference, if possible. We'll be glad to help out.

Think of Appetite for destruction mixed with the sound on metallicas load/reload with Santanas sound plus the "brown sound" mixed with my own sounds ofcourse. :) ( I know Im so original:D)

For distorted sounds I´d like to have real clarity in the sound with smooth treble and a bit of rolled off mid (not scooped but not boosted) and a tight sound but also quite open and lively.

For a clean sound i like a fat creamy sound with a bit more treble for some more edge. I also like to add some chorus and a delay set at a small tempo for some more ambience but i dont know if thats important since where talking about pickups and not fx pedals.
Bit of a weird description there but i dont know how I am supposed to explain it better. :dunno:

Sounds like a A5 bridge and an A2 neck. Maybe mid 9k range.

Ok would you mind guiding me to the right pickup model, name etc.
Or do you do some pickups that will suit me perfect? It needs to be a 4 wired pickup since Im going to do a coil-split.
Anyway thank you very much for all the help:D

This is what I was going to recommend.
I still regret letting my Mockingbird go. It was either a '79 or '80.

Awesome sounding guitar!

Best wishes to you for finding what you are looking for.

Oh yeah its a lovely guitar with a bolt on maple neck with a rosewood fretboard. It also has a floyd (obviously since its from the 80s) and seymour duncan pickups.
Its original color was white but someone painted it in a horrible but cool neon green:shock: color.
The best part is that i got it really cheap..........................100 dollars with a peavey rage 158 amp:dude:. I was 13 at the time and that was my first electric guitar and i cant believe that it has gone 4 years since:wow:

Ouch ever since Ive been interrested in mockingbirds Ive wanted a vintage Mockingbird from the 80s.

I was fortunate to have an 81 Bich 6. It was truly a magnificent guitar. But I was never able to bond with it. While I had a couple great Mockinbirds, I never lost my desire to have a vintage one. My dream guitar is a late 70's to early 80's Mockingbird with Birdseye Maple.

Nice!! I envy you guys that had all of those cool guitars. :)
My mockingbird has a beautiful birdseye maple top, but unfortunately, Bc rich aint what they used to be. All those budget models gives the company a bad reputation but i must say that they are of great quality and very reasonably priced. Just look at the Mockingbird pro X...

You can still get some nice stuff from the custom shop. And my Mockingbird Calibre series guitar was absolutely a great guitar. I am very sad I couldn't afford to keep it.
