On October 3rd, 1954, Stephen Ray Vaughan was born in Dallas Texas. During his 35 years on this earth he reintroduced Blues to mainstream music. Today he's more popular than ever.

This month we play tribute to the man with the beat up guitar and cool hat. This track always made me think of Stevie. It's in D.

Have fun!!

October Backing Track of the Month

If this is your first time, here are the guidelines.

What is it?
Every month I'll post a new backing track. It can be from any genre.
Download the track and record a solo over it.
Post your solo here along with what gear you used, recording equipment, and effects added. The more description you give the better.
I'm going to try and keep the backing tracks to under 2 minutes. Anything more is too daunting. Feel free to shorten it even more.
Try to get your recording in by the 3rd week of the month. We'll start over each month.
I'll take ideas on backing tracks so if you have a request, let me know.

Why do this?
Because it'll be fun!
I think this will be a great way to share ideas and see how each other interpret a piece differently. It will also be a good way to share recording techniques and receive overall feedback on our playing if we desire it.
This is NOT a competition!!!
Majority of people on here post great feedback in a helpful constructive way.

"But Bluto I'm scared!!!"
Look, I get it. Many of us are insecure about posting any of our own playing online. This is a safe place. I'm no guitar god. Keep it fun and I bet you'll learn a thing or two. If you're still unsure, read this: The Man In The Arena. Don't be that cold timid soul.

Funny this month is his birthday. That was total luck. I was planning on doing this track for a while.

If you can make a guitar "honk", there's some really fun stuff you could do on this track. I don't have that tone.

That's a nice groove, what's the standard way you guys play/record the backing track and your lead track? Just curious, i'm not much of a blues player but i may take a stab at something for it.

Nice.. Stevie Ray track.. Might have to use the Strat..but just haven't bonded with it..
Hands are healing..but a little stiff. I install the Nova motor this weekend. Got it all buttoned up now..transmission attached. And left hand burns are healing..LOL

I really liked September's track. I have played on it a lot..just speaks to me..

:lol::lol: :D Love IT!

Here is mine

WOW the timing was way out there for me...I knew what I wanted after listening to a few times, I fiddled with a few of the changes and thought "Well this one is easy" ....CAREFULL....The timing was totally screwing with me....I will revisit this for sure.....I did use a 1960 Reissue Les Paul CC#7....Maybe I will drag out the Strat....Love that photo....wish we could hear it!!!

B-squared was over here at my house yesterday plinking around on this and made me sound dumb on his first run through. I'll figure out something and get it up here before the month is out!

Well let me start by saying, this is not my finished product. I'm going to post it so people can see how I build a solo from crap to okay. This should also make people feel better about the whole "scared to post something crappy" thing. Post UP!

So I heard this track for about 30 seconds yesterday when b-squared played on it for a second at my house. This was the first time I hit play on me recording anything. That being said there are some cool ideas and some (a lot) I'll throw away. But here's my 'framework', kinda excited to see where I can take this one. I am not a blues guy and not good at improv! I tried to throw some John Scofield in there at the beginning.

Sorry if your ears start to tire out!

Amp : Marshall 1987x clone
Guitar : ES-335
Reverb : Sweet Sweet Garageband Reverb added to the track after I recorded it.
