I've been toying with the idea in my head lately of running effects between the amp and speaker. Because I've got an Orange Tiny Terror that breaks up real nice, but don't use effects to well,Anyway it all started when i saw this add on CL for an Attenuator made by Mr HO that attenuates the signal before the speaker, lets you add effects, then re amplifies it with a solid state amplifier. In theory, this is awesome. Because you can add effects to really dirty, loop-less, El84 style amps without it sounding disgusting by putting them in front, or having to mod the crap out of them to make it sound good. So its a great Idea... But the ad was asking 400 bucks. Not exactly in my price range.

The other thing i saw which caught my interest along this train of thought, was the mojoverb

MojoVerb (Tweed) (MOJOVERB-T) - Mojotone.com

MojoVerb - Mojotone.com

These are essentially the same Idea, but without the solid state re amplification, its tube instead. Its essentially a slave amp which splits off the speaker out of the amp into a tube driven reverb unit with its own 2x8 combo attached. Same Sort of idea but more natural sounding. Watch the video. It comes in two options. I personally like the tweed cause it looks better and is 100 bucks cheaper.... but still, 399.99 plus shipping and taxes...

So all these ideas are sinfully delicious, but I'm pondering two ideas.

BITMO 10-UATOR KIT - 30W ATTENUATOR PLATE 4 GUITAR AMP

Take one of these bad boys right here and use the line-out to my effects, then into a slave amp, but the big question is, Which amp do I use? Or, is there a different way to go about this? It'd be nice if i could go from the attenuator's line out to my effects, then mix it back in to the same signal path so i don't need another amp. Guess that's what the Mr Ho attenuator does.

So, long boring story over, any thoughts on slave amp suggestions or ideas on other options? does this seem like a pain in the butt so I should just buck up and mod in an FX loop? Any real feedback on these schemes at all would be great.

Can't knock them/you for trying. Seems like you're trying to reinvent the wheel with something that is both a pain in the a$$ and not going to change anyone's life outside of the occasional Surf guitar player. Even then, the classic reverb tones through the years were not made on amps using this cutting edge technology... Wonder how they managed???

If this floats your boat then I'd say go for it. It looks like one big unnecessary pain to me.

ya im starting to see the pain too, just modding a tiny terror is an awful pain in the a$$ as well do to its thin, machine soldered circuit board. so something that i could take off and just get rid of the amp when im done with it would be nice. and less risk of breaking something is never a bad thing either. it seems harebrained, but I like to be different :p

I don't get it. Why not just buy a different head with an effects loop?

Sinodira, another cool option is using what's called a "pro loop".

Mic your amp, route that mic signal into a small mixer, run your effects in one of the prefade aux. loops of the mixer, and then route the mixer's output to one or two powered monitors sitting next to your amp. This method gives you infinite control over stage volume and effects volume.

cause im cool like that, and i love my tiny terrors Overdrive sound. I'm also considering getting a Super champ XD to go with it as a cheap cleaner partner. Any love for it here?

You can use a Hughes and Kettner Redbox that allows you to take a line level from your speaker tap and run it into a mixer but it can also be used to go into the Input of your "wet" effects and then run into a solid state amp. You could have it all setup Nicely in a rack and use a midi switcher to change such as the RJM Mini Effects Gizmo. I personally am a fan of slaving my effects as I can get a sense of my Raw, Dry signal but also adjust How much modulation, Reverb, Delay or Echo I have also and gives a really cool effect in it self. I have a few Diagrams that will show you what I mean.

This is what I do - mic up then add effects and amplify this sound clean with a small solid state amp to add all time based or phase based effects. It is a very elegant solution and more like the way effects are introduced in the studio.

That's sort of the idea im toying with as well, to use a DI or attenuator with line out into my effects then into a cheapy SS amp, i just have no idea what to use. Any suggestions?

The Dark Terror amp has an FX loop:

But it's more high gain, so I don't know if you would like it.
