Hi guys!

I'm looking for some help with a LP puchase from GT owners. I am trying to decide between the Slash GT model or a 57RI GT without playing either of them as there are none for sale locally. The price is fairly close between the two, the R7 would be a few hundred more.

I love the tone of the Slash GT with the the SD's and would probably prefer the neck size but am really having a hard time looking past the headstock logo. The R7 on the other hand would be a better built guitar I guess being a CS but a little worried about the neck size.

I'm looking for members who have hopefully played both and can give me some helpful info. I know I'm going to get a few Slash rules/Slash sucks comments but what I really want to know is why did you buy your Slash GT over R7 or vise versa.

Cheers!

I'm a huge Slash fan and I have an R7. The neck size wasn't an issue for me as I have big hands, but thats me. I also bought mine before they released the Slash GT...

However I think the best answer is really to play them yourself. Their both really nice guitars. If you play in a Slash tribute band or something, you'll probably want to go with the Slash. If you want a slimmer neck GT, go with the Slash.

I would probably get the R7. If you can't get over the Slash logo now, you probably never will. Believe me, you'll get over the thicker neck real quick. You'll probably come to like it better. My Studio Deluxe has a slimmer 60's neck. Once I bought my Traditional Plus, it was all over. I was used to it in about ten minutes, and now I like it better.

Hi,

in the end it`s the question Traditional, what the Slash basically is vs. Reissue. If money and the neck is not the main issue, go for the R7.

But that doesn`t mean that a Slash GT is a turd or a bad guitar.
The ones i`ve played sounded great. But a R has a bit more balls.

I love the slash GT in terms of feel and tone but that logo drives me bananas. That being said i love slimmer neck profiles (hence why i play a Deluxe as my GT of choice. I played a 57 this weekend for the hell of it knowing the neck would be chunky and SURE i would hate it... Total Opposite! I fell in love instantly! The 57 neck was big but a dream to play, tone was on point, its hard to explain other than i can tell you it just felt right... Like a Les Paul SHOULD feel in my mind. Go 57 gor sure its worth a few extra bucks. I know im debating ponying up and working out the cost in my head myself.

I own a Slash GT and love it. The custom Slash profile is the most comfortable neck Gibson makes, IMHO. It's kind of the best of both worlds - slimmer 60's profile but 50's rounded. I've played a few R7s (and they are nice) and can say the two you're looking at are completely different guitars.

Personally, the headstock doesn't bother me but if a guitar didn't feel right, that would.

Completely disagree. Slash GT vs Traditional = Different PUPS, different electronics, different wiring, different neck profile, headstock graphic, Slash GT is a limited run w/no pickguard. If you want a Traditional GT, buy a Trad GT, not the Slash.

The Traditional is actually closer to a R7 (50's neck, '57 PUPs) than a Slash GT.

Thanks for the input so far everyone. The neck of the R7 may or may not be an issue I really don't know, I wish I could find one to try out. I have a 1990 LP studio with a fairly thick neck and a 50's road worn telecaster with what feels like a baseball bat size neck if that's any comparison.

I have pretty average (verging on a little small) hands and the R7 has the most comfortable profile for me that I've found so far.

I also have a Slash GT and it is a bad ass guitar. The neck profile is great, it plays effortlessly and sounds like a beast.

That said, if you have doubts about the Slash GT, get the R7. You certainly cant go wrong with it.

HI,

beside this parts, in the end it`s weight reliefed vs solid, short tenon vs. long.

That`s what i meant with basically, Pups can be changed, electronics also, but the construction not.

But as i`ve said, it`s also a good guitar.

Greetings

I know I stated that I didn't like the headstock logo on the Slash Gt but it still wouldn't prevent me from buying one if it plays and sounds great.

Those 60 gt's look great and would consider one of I was buying new but I'm really trying to find a used one to save some cash. I'm dealing with a couple of shops right now and so far it looks like the r7 will be about $400 more than the slash.

Well, yes they are both USAs but that's about where the similarities end.

I know there's a lot of people who think the Slash is the same a Traditional w/a headstock graphic, but after owning one and playing mutliple trads, two different animals, JMO.

My other main point was if he wanted a USA model to compare to a R7, the Traditional is a much closer match than the Slash.

You can also pick up a used Traditional for a few hundred $$ less than a Slash b/c they aren't limited to 1000 units (another key difference).

You're right, all great guitars tho.

Those of you here who have the Slash, would you trade it for an R7? I've seen a few of each model sell for virtually the same price lately.

I owned 3 slash gt and they are nice but i liked my R7 gt better, both cost about the same used but the R7 was a better quality guitar and had a nicer feel to it, i liked the thin neck on the slash but it didnt take me long to get used to the R7 neck, i also liked the tone of the R7 better.
