When Steve Miller hit SF back in the '60's and forward, I, living just on the other side of the Bay Bridge, made a special effort to see him. I love that guy. :hippie:

I would just like for musicians and actors to stick to music and acting, and quit be social justice warriors for whatever the crisis of the day happens to be.

My Dad always said, “Never discuss politics or religion or other hot button topics, outside of home. You’ll make and keep more friends that way”.

Besides, anyone who was on top of the charts back in the early 70’s when I was in high school, is too damn old for me to go see anymore! :laugh2:

Some folks just can't face reality....

I get the 'gotta eat' deal... BUT some are under the illusion they can still fill big venues and I ain't talking big coliseums.... Smaller city civic centers are over for many too... Their options are smaller clubs, conventions, private corp gigs, etc... Damned sad but it is what it is...

I was literally ragged on by some friends when I quit playing full time and jumped on the prof job... To a couple, I was a traitor to the jealous bitch. I grew up around that party and knew a ton of folks at different stages of their career, INCLUDING tail end. I saw it up close.... I had no illusions. I knew I would never be a so-called star and had no desire. It was a job. Fun but still a job. I made money when there was money to be made and when I saw the clouds on the horizon, I was given an opportunity to teach college with my degrees and experience and jumped on it. Benefits. Retirement pension. 401K type account in probably the best system in the country. Still worked on the side for a lot of years on MY terms but for fun...(still got paid but I didn't NEED the $ to survive..) I look at some that kinda looked at me sideways back then and they are scratching to make ends meet with bare necessities...

Some market to good size clubs because they 'can' fill those and may get away with two different 90min shows in one night... Many think bands from the old days are filthy rich, not having a good savvy of the points system that sums up way over 100% no matter how you cut it, dice it, or slice it... They are from the 'fuck the musicians' era of record companies...

I remember telling a bud of mine I worked with for several years 'Wait a damn minute. That's right at 200%.' He looked at me and said 'Now you've got it...' Screw job for the musicians from the get go.

So, when you walk into a club or small venue to see a band you really liked, they would probably rather be at home watching football...but gotta eat... Many have/had no exit strategy and playing is all they've got... Sad.....

If somebody just told me "I just got signed." I'd be tempted to say 'I am so sorry.....' Many now do it all themselves from studio to stage.... Easy to savvy why....

I'll add this....

A year or two ago, I was talking to a retired bud on the phone and he told me point blank, 'Had I not wrote those three tunes that hit hard, my old ass would still be being helped on stage to play... They still spin every day so I make enough with my writer's credit to finally retire....'
Three hits from decades back. Spin every day STILL... and he had enough for a modest retirement....very modest....

Music is a jealous bitch....and stingy...

It's been 33 years since I saw Steve Miller. We went to an outdoor concert at Molson Park, summer of '92. It started in the afternoon with Moxy Fruvous, then Sass Jordan, Extreme and Steve Miller. Bryan Adams was the headliner and the only reason my wife bought tickets in the first place LOL.
It was a long, hot day. I remember seeing people drunk and passed out on the ground before Moxy Fruvous came on. I wonder how bad their sunburn was.

I remember Miller being my favorite part of the concert.

Or maybe Steve's telling the truth.
Could be that.

I wasn’t old enough to catch Steve Miller in his 1970s prime.

By the time I had my own car and my own money and started going to concerts, his big hit was “Abracadabra”.

There are songs in the rock pantheon that are so insipid, I am tempted to shoot my own fucking radio.
