Hello friends, i'm really afraid that my lovely new '59 will crack because of having no strap lock system.

I would be willing for a strap lock system which DOESN'T involve drilling new holes in the '59. There is no way it's going to get drilled, so I want to know if any of you guys use any system like that.

Thank you!!

Um, Dunlop straplocks work well, and I've never had to redrill a hole. TWICE I've had to break a toothpick in the hole and give it a bit more torque when using their screw as sometimes they are a tad loose, but 90% of the time they're solid. Bad thing is you need a wide thread screw with a tiny head so it fits in the strap lock end. DUnlops screws thread pitch isn't very good but they work. I have them on ALL my main players, gigged no issues.

I use Schaller straplocks. What I do is buy screws that match the original ones from the guitar in size. The screws are too wide for the strap lock button so it takes some filing, both the head and the threaded part. I lock the screw in a power drill and grind its head down on a file. Then I drill a slightly bigger hole in the button for the screw to go through.
Most important: don´t forget to pray for all your fingers to survive the procedure:)

Schaller's strap locks now come with four screws. Two regulars and two longer screws. About time.

Even if you use the shorter screws, all you have to do is insert a few toothpicks in the hole with or without glue. People have been doing it for decades.

What he said... also a little soap on the threads can't hurt.

I have Schaller's on all of them now so I can use the same strap.

Grolsh bottle ones work real well

as in the first photo....

The second photo are the ones from a brewers supply store you can buy them in packs of 8 (I think)

Those are in the second photo.

So you get to keep you guitar original....Never have failed yet. I use Shallers for my strat and bass however.

You could buy one of these straps & be done.

Lock-It Guitar Straps - Home

They really work amazingly well. Its like having a really great lock system built into the strap & you don't have to change anything on the guitar.

My thoughts exactly! I think I'm going to buy a 'Luxury Leather' one in Dark Chocolate.

I have Schallers on all my guitars except one, and they are great! However, the one guitar that I don't have them on I want left all original.... this strap system looks perfect for that guitar.

I gave up on the Grolsch washers and went with Schallers. I've been using them for a few months now and they work perfectly. So well, that I have installed them on every guitar that I own.

The new packages include 2 different screw types (4 in all) that fit fine. The hole on the bottom of my R9, near the input jack was a little big, but a toothpick (glue not required) solved that problem.

I play almost every day, rehearse 2-3X/week and gig 3-4X/month with my R9. The Schaller buttons have not come loose on the guitar and the strap connectors are on as tightly as the day that I installed them.

YMMV, but if installed correctly, they should work flawlessly and last for many years. I do, however, suggest that as with anything, you check them out every now & then to make sure that all the connections are tight and solid.

I tried the Lock-It strap. It worked fine on my LP with original buttons. Two issues I found:

--After 6 months the strap broke. The plastic piece that locks the strap onto the guitar button (neck button) broke because of the flexing of the leather end and plastic lock piece when hung around your shoulder. I'm an at home player only, so I don't bounce, jump, or run around with my guitar when playing. I bought a second strap and it broke after 4 months for the same reason.

--The leather end rubs against the guitar (not a big deal, since most straps that don't use a more traditional lock system will probably do this also). It left marks/scratches around the neck button.

I ended up going with the Schaller and I don't have any of these problems (bought new screws and filed down the diameter of the ends to make them fit into the button).
