I have both a 2010 Tribute (plaintop) and the Prophecy Custom GX. Both guitars sound different but to me, in a good way. The Prophecy seems to be a little bit more reserved with the bridge pup to be a bit less hot than the Tribute. That's funny considering that the Prophecy was mostly marketed to metal players. It is a fine guitar, but I did upgrade the wiring harnesses with ones from Jonesy. On both the Tribute and the Prophecy. If I had to choose between the two, I'd go with the tribute. Just more bang for the buck, I think.

I have the Prophecy GX in Heritage Cherry. It has the Ebony fretboard and I purchase it in Feb 2012. I had to wait for it 5 1/2 months to be delivered but I am really pleased with the guitar. I do love the look and the playability of the 24 frets - very different (IMHO). Getting them now doesn't seem to be a problem.
I would pick my GX over the Tribute (have the Tribute in Faded Cherry) mostly for the comfort on the fretboard and frankly I just think it is stunning. Many folks do not seem to keen on the Quilt top but oh my I am - never tire of looking at it.

I had a cherryburst GX for a couple weeks before I decided to send it back, mostly over the horrible amount of fretbuzz, but the neck wasn't really my cup of tea. If you are looking for a quasi Strat/Ibanez kinda feel in a 24 3/4" scale, this neck might do it for ya. Way different than any other Lester I have ever held. Ended up trading it out for a T+ VSB, and I do not regret the decision. But the top on the Propecy was friggin amazing!!

Some Epi's need adjusting out of the box. Mine had some buzz, about 5 minutes work took care of it. The neck was perfectly straight, so I put a little bow to it and all was good.

If you didn't like the neck, you probably wouldn't like a 70's Gibson Norlin LP either? I thought this neck was the closest to my 70's Customs? Your guit was very cool looking though!

For me it was the 57s in the T+ that did it.

I took to the luthier for a setup and he tweaked on it but finally called and said it was gonna take a full on fret job to get it right. I thought about keeping it, but a new axe should need a setup, not an overhaul.

I like them both...I guess it depends if you want the more modern sound of the 498T-490R combo mated with the 24 frets..or want a more traditional sound of the 57's. Also worth concidering is the long tenon construction of the Plus...or then again...jumbo frets on the proph are kind of a niice touch...any way you look at it to answer the question posed...people don't suggest the Prophesy as an alternative to the Plus because they are two totally different animals...both worth looking into though

EMG's are killer for metal, but really don't do anything else very well.

Yup. Very much along lines of my reasoning for wanting to add a Prophecy GX alongside my T+ -- not because either is a good sub for the other, but because the two are so different. Between them they should cut a wide swath of tones, and if I get tired of looking at the Prophecy's gold hardware and quilt top, I can gaze at my vintage sunburst T+ with its more traditional, simpler woodwork and hardware. My experience is that they're both well built and easy as any Epi LP to set up and play.

Pre-baked Lasagne?

Actually, a couple spoons of lasagne in the pup cavities would have sounded about as good as the PBLs -- depending on how many winds you did with the noodles and whether it was "active" or "passive" cheese. :laugh2:

My personal preference is passive cheese. Active cheese just results in crappy output. :iough:
