I find it funny that people would invest good money for a guitar but not secure it with any strap locking device that you can purchase for less than $15.00.

This accident could of been avoided for sure and the cost of fixing a broken headstock is much more expensive than the cost of a strap lock.

I use strap lock straps by Planet Waves so no need to take off the buttons ect, or I use ducktape.

Maybe he had strap locks but forgot his strap and had to borrow one? It happens. Schaller type strap locks are a disaster if you forget your strap:naughty:.

That may happen, but by personal experience, I have not encountered any problems with schaller or dunlop strap locks. I've used both and still have some of them that I purchased from the early 80s on my 70s and 80s Les Pauls and Strats. YEs, they are still working after all these years. Those are the two that I trust the most in strap locks. I also never remove the straps off the guitar once I have the strap locks locked on the guitar. I put the guitar with the strap in the case. That is one good way to not "forget your strap" :)

I like how the guitar player behind him doesn't even flinch and just keeps on noodling, then looks at him like "I told you that you should use some straplocks, you idiot." lol

If I buy a guitar in a shop I don't leave without strap locks in the case.

If I buy a guitar privately, first place I go is to purchase strap locks.

I was once invited on-stage by a good friend of mine to play a tune with his band.

-3 foot elevated stage.
-He hands me his NEW Gibson SG and sits down at a table in the front.
-Just as the solo to Whole Lotta Love ends, I bust a string.
-I briefly and ever so slightly lift the guitar and turn to show the guys.
-As I turn back and put the guitar back down....................

The strap is whipping around my shoulders. Too fast to catch it.
Hits the stage and bounces...you guessed it....OFF the front of the f^cking stage and onto the floor right at the feet of my friend.
The look on his face....priceless....

All of this while it's still plugged up. The cacophony was deafening.

No strap locks.
And no serious damage to the guitar. Oh it had dents but not too bad all things considered.

He was some pissed at me though......Oh my Gawd!!!

The show must go on, and kudos for that, but he shoulda been carrying a spare. I always do.

I've never used "locks", just the Grolsch washers. I've had one close call, on a guitar with buttons that I didn't think needed washers. I was wrong. But I also keep the guitar in hand - always. When he started gesturing with no hand on, I knew where/when the fall was going to occur.

Gotta love Teles, though. One of my cats finally managed to knock a guitar to the floor during one of their battle reenactments. Thankfully, it was the Tele. Can't see a scratch or ding on it, but I can see the scratches and dings on the hardwood floor.

I had Schallers fail on me (no disaster) so I just use metal washers now. I hate the pins on the Schallers too, just another accident waiting to happen.

I've used Dunlop's for years. I put them on all my guitars so I don't need but 3 or 4 good straps.
