Let’s talk jazzmasters :)

I’ve had one am pro, two allparts/mjt builds, an avri62 mutt (avri parts assembled by a fender employee) and a Novo Serus J.

Currently have one allparts/mjt back and trying to sort out the setup before I give in and list it.

I like the way they balance closer to classical position, and the pickups offer something a little different. I dont use trem but the behind-the-bridge sounds are fun. Many ways to configure one, as with most.

I may go am pro/ii again, tbd!

Of course pics are nice

Avri mutt (buyer tried to sell it as an actual avri, ass)

My friend got into them pretty seriously last year and I definitely fell in love with them pretty fast!

He maxed out an American model with the mastery bridge/trem and Novak pickups, it was pretty sweet!

I’m thinking on a Mascis Squire, because the JM bridge pickup isn’t my favorite, so a p90 in the bridge with a proper JM neck pickup would suit me nicely :D

Never had one, but am increasingly leaning towards them so will be watching this thread with considerable interest :) Thanks for starting it :)

I put together a Jazz-Caster last year. Jazzmaster for the ergonomics, Telecaster for the electronics.

Even if you lock up the whammy bar, the JM pickups take some getting used to.

[ah, you asked for pics …

I bought a Candy Apple Red Squier VM in Aug 2018. About a year and half later I found a used SKB Jazz/Jag case for it. It's a fun guitar, makes me want to play surf tunes.

I am mostly a gibson guy. Fender guitars are a struggle for me most of the time, especially Strats. I have an American Original Jazzmaster and I instantly fell in love with it. It is so comfortable and I love the sounds I get out of it. I typically have the tone rolled off around 5 or 6 and that makes it work really well in my setup but I can always roll it up for all the spanky chime that it has on tap.

I modded my rhythm circuit so it has 2 1 meg pots instead of a 50K pot for the tone. This gives me 2 identical circuits. I roll the volume off on the rhythm circuit and that gives me my clean tone at the flip of a switch. I also leave the tone all the way up so my rolled off clean doesn't get too muddy.

I wish I would have tried the JM earlier in my life. I never would have pissed with Strats.

Did some setup work on mine last night

11-49
Remove downbar
Adjust neck relief
Restore movement of mustang bridge
Oil fretboard

Definitely feeling more dialled in!

Forgot to ask my friend to dremel access to the truss rod when he had it for a pickup swap :/

What do you mean by dremel access? I see the adjustment right at the heel in the image.

Great offsets all.
I have the wrench to get it without moving the neck, except the pickguard means I cant actually slot the wrench in. Need to dremel the guard down at that spot.

The J Mascis guy is flaking…
A message Wednesday, a message Saturday. Still no reply, even though he’s reading the messages.

The listing is still up :run:
I’m losing my mind :laugh2:
Anyway, here’s my half breed. It has dimarzio stacked pickups, obsidian 4 way switch and is tuned to b standard.

Well, I did score this for 300 bucks. It’s actually pretty damn good stock!

I need to do some setup on it, but other than that I’ll keep it stock for a while until I decide what really needs done. Mastery vibrato is likely and a warmer bridge pickup. Novak has so many types that I’ll probably go that route.

Nice - classic vibe? I was after the 40th anni blocks model but the 5 i tried all had too many issues for the price :(

Mods will be more than the guitar lol. Could also just get the stock bridge pickup rewound.
