Hey Folks

In the meantime, I am kinda walking in guitar heaven this week as I finally quit screwing around and started studying scales. I am officially "out of the box". :dude:
I have the pentatonics down in every key and for the last week I have been all over the neck. It's a great feeling. Now I want to move into new territory and try some new modes. Dorian seemed like a good place to start but for some reason I can't find a diagram of the neck with the Dorian laid out on it. I can find tons of "sheet music" with all the notes but seeing as I don't read much it would be faster if I could find a diagram of the guitar neck with the Dorian laid out on it. Doesn't matter which key, just need the scales. Any tips on using it would also be appreciated. Thanks in advance!

Just something that helped me while learning modes, was lining up the 5 pentatonic positions to 5 of the 7 modes. Here's a reference starting with 1st min pent position (Aeolian6) 2nd, (Ionian1) 3rd (Dorian2), 4th (Lydian4) and 5th (Mixolydian5).

Here are 7 modes of major scale.......

You will find enough here to give you fits for years.....

This is chart is in a 3 note per string format.

The root note of each mode is highlighted

These connect in order both ascending and descending.

My advice would be to study the major scale and why the modes exist...

Practice each against various progressions to learn the voicings.

Also.......

Learning and study basic music timing, and note values.....

Not doing so is where most of us home players limit ourselves the most.....

So use this while studying any musical phrasing......

Hmmmm…

Looks like @oldcountry73 was a newcomer, and didn’t survive long for some reason.

Thanks for those pie charts, I know most of them. But It's nice to see it and start noodling with some of the weird ones. Never fail to find new riffs hidden in there!! Rock on.

I'm not a great player....at all.

But I get good mileage while noodling against backing tracks just by knowing the modes.....

Most of my time is spent in the Ionian,Dorian and Aeolian modes....occasionally using Phrygian.

I also like the Hexatonic .....it's super flexible.....I just need to play it more.
