If you put a piece of new nickel hardware next to a piece of chrome hardware, you can tell the difference. But if you were just looking at a guitar with all nickel or all chrome h/w...it might be a bit more difficult. (especially off of a photo.)

Insofar as I know, though....I don't think Gibson uses a lot of chrome on their guitars...

Not if you know what you are doing....

To be fair if the OP knew what he was doing then why would he post this?

I'm not an expert on hardware or aging, just opinionated.

I was commenting on your remark bro, not the OP's. You see I am opinionated as well :naughty:

Chrome will have a slight blue tint when compared (side by side) to nickel.

And I'll reiterate your Faded has nickel hardware unless another owner switched to chrome, which is highly unlikely.

Yup, big up to Sentry AND Sonar :dude:

Yep. Chrome will have a blueish tint and nickel has a slight yellowish tint. Nickel will age, chrome will not.

It is True that chrome will not age naturally like nickel hardware does, but chrome can be aged/relic'd quite easily and ends up looking a lot like nickel IMO :hmm:

These parts that I aged were all chrome plated before I relic'd them...

They look gold. :laugh2: Chrome will pit over time just like chrome on a car if you don't wipe it off every now and then. Jonesy, it looks like you removed chrome plating from brass or something.

Jonesy, is that aged or stripped? It looks completely stripped to me.

They actually have a gray cast to them in natural light, but they always turn out a little different. And I think these parts are copper underneath not brass, the chrome plating is still on the parts.

And Yes chrome will pit, unlike nickel plating but I have actually seen chrome bridges turn grayish from sweat removing the shine from the chrome plating.

No there is still plating left on the metal. You have to be careful because if you completely strip off the finish in any areas it would be bright copper colored,(import parts) unless they are US made then they are brass or plated aluminum.

On a aging scale of 1-10 these are about a 8 or heavy relic. Once you get the finish to dull you can get them to rust as well.

Here is a better pic of some Relic'd chrome in natural lighting. All of these Tele's have aged chrome hardware and as you can see it is a natural gray color. My camera does not always have the truest color depending on lighting etc.
