Apologies if this has already been posted.

Only in the good old US of A, folks.

Dead man elected as US mayor - Telegraph

Why wasn't his name taken off the ballot papers, or any votes in his name declared void...?

Dead man elected as US mayor
Voters in a US town have elected a dead man as their mayor.

Carl Geary died a month ago from a heart attack as he campaigned to be selected for the small country town. Despite his sudden death he still polled over three times as many votes as his rival in the election in Tracy City, Tennessee.

His widow, Susan Geary, said his election "was not a surprise at all to me."

"The day he passed away, people were calling with condolences and saying, 'We're still voting for him,'" she said.

Geary, 55, was known for his straight talking and served on the local council. He polled 285 votes to his rival's 85.

Local business owners said the vote to elect Geary was as a protest against the current mayor, Barbara Brock.

"I knew he was deceased. I know that sounds stupid, but we wanted someone other than her," said Chris Rogers, owner of the town's Lunch Box restaurant.

"If he were to run again next week I'd vote for him again."

Town officials said four councillors will now decide who becomes mayor.

Barbara Brock, who lost out to the dead rival, had campaigned on her efforts to beautify the Tracy City which has a population of 1600 and is 80 miles from Nashville.

She said she was shocked that the town would vote for someone who is "pushing up the daisies" rather than planting them.

Brock was elected Mayor of the town 16 months ago - after the previous mayor died of a heart attack.

"The headline should say 'Mayor that filled the shoes of a dead man, beaten by a dead man,'" Mr. Rogers said.

Not only in America does this happen just look at Britain! The queen is so old and useless that you would think she was dead.

Sounds like it was between a douche bag and a turd sandwich, and they picked the turd sandwich. Or in other words - typical fn politics USA or not.

As Jerry Garcia said, "Constantly choosing the lesser of two evils is still choosing evil."

Yeah she is old and has always been useless, but the main difference is that she's not dead and we didn't elect her.. :hmm:

Mind you, didn't you Yanks elect a dead President some years ago with the unfortunate name of George Dubbya. Alive in the physical sense, but with absolutely no electrical brain activity whatsoever.
One of those unfortunate individuals who couldn't fart and chew gum at the same time.:laugh2:

Because Americans believe their politicians are full of shit more so than most any other time in the country's history. Better to vote for a dead guy who will do nothing than some party asshole who will spend half of his time in office campaigning for the next election while spending the other half making decisions or voting for what he thinks his party wants rather than what his conscious tells him.

He's one of our American dynasty families, not unlike Hilary Clinton, that the sheeple vote for. Screw monarchs, including England's - no one is BORN with the "right" to lead a country.

Fixed it wrong, matey. All functions of State emanate from the Crown. Until such time as things change, then what I posted is correct. One gets to know these things, having been a servant of the 'State' for over 30 years. :D :dude:

Why can't Hilary Clinton get some really good stains on her dresses. I'm sure with her experience she'd be far better at it than that younger one... :laugh2: :dude:

Vasco, it appears that he does more things for the town than a living one. That could be said of alot of the elected officials over here. IMO.

Don't you mean dysentery families? :laugh2:
Actually the Queen and the whole Royal family ( As much as I loath them ) are only figureheads and have no political power whatsoever.
Oliver Cromwell put paid to that.

It's actually better that way. At least they can't cause any trouble.
