I'm a brand new member and was interested in learning what my 1982 LP Deluxe might be worth in todays market. I put an Electrosonic rear pickup on it a long time ago, case is the OHSC, the plastic type, serial # is 80742XXX. I look forward to hearing from all the experts at this totally cool site. It is in average to above average condition. Thanks!

I would say some were between $1200 and $1400 as it has been modified

I truly love Gibson LP Deluxes ! Especially ones made in '82 and after as those were made with the reinstated old school recipe. Plus mini humbuckers sound very excellent, anywho i saw a humbucker being routed in the bridge so I'd say its about 1600 bucks or so. If I were to keep that guitar I'd get it re-routed to hold a bridge mini humbcker again !

I'd put you at right about $1350-$1500. The majority of Deluxe's have been routed and that's taking some value from them these days.

was it common for the 80's LPs to have an oval shaped switch cover?

Yeah some of them did have that feature. Another one ive seen em on was those Les Paul XRs and some of the early Les Paul Studios have em

I've never seen a DeLuxe with dot inlays, is that a Studio variant? Also, mine had an inlaid logo, not the silk-screen.

Thanks for all the good info.

What do you feel is the best method to sell it?
I recently sold a vintage Gibson acoustic on eBay and got killed with the shipping costs, I completely underestimated it.

Try a local sale with Craigslist or Kijiji. You could also probably find someone in your area on the forum in the classifieds section who may be in the market for one, you never know.

It might be one of those XR series which i heard were used as a test bed series for a number of years to pick which design would make the LP Studio which came out in 1983. I only heard about XR I,II and IIIs but if they made other model variations i wouldn't be surprised.

Thanks for the feedback, but there seems to be a big difference between $400 and $1500.... is it most likely in the middle somewhere? Please sound off... thx!

$700.00 - $900.00?

It's kinda hard to say, it's basically a special (which are around $600.00), but it's unique. I don't think the uniqueness really raises the price too much, but if it exactly what someone wants, they may go a little higher.

I didn't notice the dot inlays when I gave my first estimate. I think probably $600-$900

I put it up on Craigslist and got an offer from Guitar Center for $750, gonna hold out for $800. He said their vintage guy in Hollywood said its a decent price. Everyone agree? Anyone had any experiences selling vintage to GC?

Hey buddy I think that's a very reasonable price. I've tried to deal with GC on some of my Norlins, usually to no avail. They tend to be consistently short when I negotiate. I guess you could say that's only by my appraisal standards though. It seems like I always think my Pauls are worth about $200 more than they really are? :hmm: Anyways I think $750 is reasonable, though I'm certainly not opposed to holding out for $800.

So I drive over an hour to get to Guitar Center, they look at the Les Paul, take some pics, and call the Vintage expert in Hollywood. After waiting a half hour they come back and offer $350 !!!!! That's after they offered $750 in an email the day before - WTF !!! Oh, and there were no surprises when seeing it first hand. It looked just as good or better than the pics I sent them.

Sounds like they've been watching that show "pawn stars" and are trying some lowballing tactics.
That's kinda sh*tty if they offered you 750 and made you drive all that way just to undercut you.
