Whaddyou guys got against right on the sofa, ottoman, or easy chair? Damned things are draped around here like cats. And I honestly feel they're as safe as, or safer than, in a case. I've seen idjits step on a case like it was a step-stool.

:thumb:

I always have at least one out, parked in the easy chair when I am at home. If I leave home, they are all tucked away in their cases safe and sound.

Mine stay in the case almost all of the time, and I take whatever one I'm going to play out when I'm going to use it. I used to keep whichever one I was playing the most at any given time out in a stand, but stopped when my daughter came home from the hospital. You know how it is with young kids running around, not watching where they're going.

Yep, got four little boys. That's why I have wall hangers all over the house :) Cases they can get to and the oldest are crafty enough to pick simple locks.

I just like mine up and out of the way.

Of course, I'm thinking with those earthquakes, that might not be such a good idea.

All my Les Pauls, Classicals, and acoustics are kept on Konig and Meyer stands. I have to have them nearby and within easy access, whenever I want to play. My Tele's and others are hanging from Hercules wooden hangers. My Strats are on the wall with String Demon hangers, which use the strap buttons.

Hey Floyd, any chance you can invite me over for a playdate?

I keep them in their cases . . . and I play them every day. I also keep my Les Pauls in their cases during gigs when not playing them. It doesn't take that much effort to take care of a fine guitar or keep it from being bashed around by the idiot brigades whose carelessness destroys fine instruments.

Cases. Though I do want to hang a few on the walls because I find them just as beautiful as most any other work of art. I'm not worried about sunlight. Folks leave Historics on the roof in direct sun for weeks and show almost no fading. Windows have UV protection.

Cases, stands and wall hangers. Depends on what I'm playing the most...then it's on a stand. Otherwise it's hung up or in the case to protect it from the cleaning lady and other people's children...

Just had some tremors in the DC/MD/VA area... PHEW I'm glad my paul was safe in its case and not on a stand!!!

Cracked me up. Friend of mine lives in the Shenandoah Valley on a farm after living for years in LA. About twenty minutes after the quake hit, I sent him:

"Just sent a little somethin'-somethin' along to you from all your friends in Shakeytown; hope you enjoy and found it nostalgic. Should have hit about a half-hour ago. Barn still standing? "

He sent back:

"What the **** was it? yes I felt it and reached for a gun since there is no earthquakes here."

And a few minutes later:

"just looked it up on the internet. Well I will be dipped.

I thought someone was coming up the stairs and pulled the gun out of my desk. No one there so I went outside to see if one of Billy's great big tractors was going by, they are taking the corn off the fields. Nope.

until you wrote I didn't have a clue.

We don't get earthquakes here."

Worthy of note -- in the Huffington Report in March or so, a scientist is quoted as having said that "New York is overdue for a 6.0 -- according to the geological record, they occur about once every 100 years and the last one was in 1884." The Virginia quake didn't qualify, which means that NY is probably still on the docket.

LA is due for a big one.

And the Pathetic Northwest is due for one of its HUGE Once-Every-350-Year 9.0 quake-and-tsunamis. The fault line for these is just 40 miles offshore, set up almost exactly like the Japanese plates. According to the physical record left by the last one, scientists *all* predict that this may produce one of the greatest natural disasters ever to have hit the US. Part of the problem is that the fault line wasn't discovered until the mid-80's. Another part is that Oregon (for example) didn't adopt building code changes until 1995, and most buildings done before that have not been retrofitted. 25% of Oregon's bridges are structurally deficient or functionally obsolete, etc. Many of the dams that protect urban areas are vulnerable. And the tsunami would hit in just 30 minutes.

You should worry about sunlight (and so should those roof-baking historics). The pigments won't fade, but nitrocellulose lacquer itself is UV sensitive, and it *will* hasten the disintegration of that crap. The UV protection on the windows is a good thing...

I'm going to have to vote for cases. I don't mean to knock you here or nothin, but if the amount of effort it requires you remove a guitar from it's case is preventing you from playing, you might want to consider knitting or watching tv or something. You obviously don't want it bad enough.

I was taught to always keep your axe in the case when you are not playing it. Way back guitar stands were little cheesy unstable metal stands made for folkies. Also always keep your forefinger on the case lid when you carry it, never leave it in the trunk of a car, never let it out of your sight at a gig and really never let anybody even touch it.

I keep my LP & 335 on a rack stand, cloth protects the nitro finish. I have do dogs or kids, no direct sunlight to worry about. Otherwise they'd be in cases.
