As long as only parents have to pay for it, I'm good with this.

I have no children, and I don't want my tax money to go toward people who think their lifestyle choices (Having children in America is a lifestyle choice) are more important than mine.

Or to put it simply, you breed 'em, you feed 'em.

Perpetuation of the species is hardwired into all life forms of every type on this planet. I would hardly call it a 'lifestyle choice', as it is more of an Evolutionary/survival trait.

IMO, it's a lifestyle choice. It's not hardwired into me. Maybe I'm an android. No wait, I use an iPhone, can't be that. Android, BLEH!

Either way, I have no interest in paying for someone else's lifestyle choice.

No Thump, not at all. The whole 'Americans can buy assault weapons everywhere' myth seems unreasonable when I hear it from non-US folk. But there is no doubt in my mind that they are far more available in the US, or at least where I have visited. I don't think there's anybody I know who keeps handguns, some friends and uncles have hunting rifles. On top of that, I don't think I'd have any luck asking anyone where to even buy a handgun or ammo.

Yes, that sort of thing is known here. We don't prefer that for ourselves.

Why our laws arouse so much concern from outsiders is beyond me.

Yeah, except that you ignored his point.

The fact that you seem to have less drive to reproduce doesn't make you the norm.

no one got shot :)

............:applause:

I wasn't going to join in this thread simply because It's none of my business what goes on in America re gun laws, but seeing as Britian got mentioned with regard to the riots I thought I'd put in my twopence worth .
Well of course nobody got shot because there aren't any guns to shoot anyone with, ( Well at least not with the majority ).
Had there been guns over here a lot more people would have been killed and injured without a doubt. No question about it.
And there I will rest my case, as I don't want to get involved in American laws regarding guns.. :)
One thing I would be interested to know though, is how many Americans in here would like tighter gun control in their country, or in fact abolish guns altogether?

He equally ignored mine. Parents should pay the FULL FREIGHT for the upbringing of their children.

Some attitudes do creep north of the border. We just want to make sure Americans 'keep it over there', live and let live:thumb:

Then it seems to me your efforts are better spent on convincing your fellow Canadians, don't you think?

I mean, I cherish free speech, but rather than beat you over the head with Canada's hate-speech laws, I think it's more useful to discuss it with my fellow American voters.

Make the subs on light duty with no assignment bus drivers. You now have an armed driver with the powers of arrest transporting the kids. Everyone wins.

You benefit from an educated population even if you're childless.

I don't see much of an educated population, esp among young people these days.

Branford Marsalis says it better than I do...

I would imagine what happens up here registers as much as a 'fart in a windstorm' in the US my friend. However, seeing as we are on an international board, I just pushed my opinion for the outside audience should they be getting any ideas here.

However, I doubt it as I believe we are happy with our way, as are Americans with theirs.

Full of Shit

You can move all the goalposts you want. So long as you're doing that, you're conceding the points I'm making.

You benefit from an educated public, even though you yourself are childless.

Think otherwise? Very well. Inspect your own food in the meat-packing plant, install the turbines on your own jetliner before you yourself fly it, perform your own emergency appendectomy ... you get the drift.

We didn't fear our teachers. We were scared shitless by our gym teachers. These guys would roam the halls and keep the peace.... think nothing of slamming you into a hall locker or putting you into a headlock, dragging you into an empty corner of the hall and inform you of your misdeed.

You never talked back or put up resistance, because then you would be taken down to the weight room or wrestling room for a beating.

This system worked. Nobody came out with broken limbs, just hurt ego's, and better this than being sent to the principles office where your parents were called and then you would really be in deep shit when your father arrived.

There is a term for those who are not interested in participating in society by sharing in its costs, but just want to gain from the benefits of being in one.

Maybe a cave, mountaintop, or hermitage would be more suitable for your lifestyle choice.

Well, the implication (which you've already admitted was in error, thanks) that we have no "reasonable gun control" is not really helpful.

However, I doubt it as I believe we are happy with our way, as are Americans with theirs.

If you think Americans are happy with the current state of affairs, you're not paying attention.

And for my Canadian, Ausie and New Zealand friends that think they have no "scary-dangerous handguns residing in people's homes--""

Not every person gave up the ghost when the gun grabbers cam calling--

I know of plenty of "illegal" weapons residing in these 3 countries--Owned, by what otherwise would be considered, law abiding, upstanding folks---

Trust me when I say this!!!---
