got this e-mail the other day:

I received word today that the Firebird V 2010s are unofficially
discontinued. These will likely exist again at some point in the
future, but it will be at least 3 years before it's back on the
production schedule. All POs have been canceled by Gibson. In the
meantime, the next closest alternative will be the Firebird Stu
Reverse '70s models.

Gibson Firebird Studio Reverse '70s Tribute (Satin Vintage Sunburst) | Sweetwater.com

Did you want to change to this model, or cancel the order?
Thanks,

Dan

Ace they were in stock for awhile at GC and MF. I mentioned it in another posting. How come you never jumped on it?

That sucks. I had to wait like three months for mine, and I would have been devastated had it never arrived.

The other models are hardly the same: they aren't neck through, they don't have the proper tuners, God knows what the pickups are (although the stock ones on the 2010 'Bird aren't great either). I'm sure the finish isn't really all that strong either.

I have to wonder what Gibson is thinking here. I spend time on this forum, a Telecaster oriented one and a Jazzmaster style guitar forum also. On all three, I spend a lot of time talking about the new Firebirds. People are interested, and rightfully so. I wouldn't really think this is the time to suspend production now that folks are talking about them so much.

I hope you get one anyway, very soon. Maybe I'll look around and see if I can find one for you somewhere.

I guess the FireTurd was to successful and felt there wasn't a market for them.

A sign of the times? Expensive to produce a thru neck when the rest of the line are set neck? Who knows!

lespaul01, ive been waiting on my firebird since october of 2011.

when i placed my order, the sweetwater website said the guitar was backordered until 12/11. my sweetwater rep said the waiting list was increasing, so i jumped on. i waited until december and was told they were back ordered until March 2012. as march approached, i contacted my rep and he said they were moved back again to 5/18/12. as 5/18/12 approached, i once again contacted my sweetwater rep:

It looks like the current ETA is 07/18. Sorry for the delay, but we
will get yours as soon as Gibson can get them to us.

Make it a great May!

as 7/18/12 approached, i contacted him again to see if things were on track:
got a reply on 7/9/12:
Gibson says that we will have some 07/18/12, but not the entire order.
Your toward the front of the list, so if they send enough, and on
time, the 07/18/12 is a valid date. They have also given me a date of
07/20/12 for the balance of that order, so it should be this month, if
their ETAs are accurate.

Make it a great July!

then a day later he sent me the e-mail in the OP about them being cancelled altogether.

now, id say that they gave me the runaround. 10 months. 10 mother****ing months i sat here and anticipated the arrival of my very own brand new gibson firebird.

ill be honest, i am furious.

i wanted to get one from sweetwater because my credit isnt up to par for musiciansfriend financing and i can afford to do the monthly sweetwater payments.

im a little leery of sweetwater right now. like i said, i feel like they just straight up gave me the runaround, but thats fine. AMS offers spectacular payment options these days:cool:

Well, here's a thought. Can you find a music store- you know, like an actual place that sells musical instruments that you could walk into and touch them? And if you find one, why don't you call them, and see if they will let you do layaway and then ship when it is paid off.

If only I knew someone who built a much better improved version of the firebird with lots of choices, reasonable prices, takes payments and delivers on time.

If only....

Tough deal though, really surprised they are being discontinued.

I see what you did there, Doug! I'll give you a bump, though, since you obviously love the model enough to make an interpretation of your own as well as being on the world's least travelled website, the one based on Firebirds only.

Check out Doug's stuff. He's very good.

I'm still planning on ordering that GT Banshee... I've just gotten behind on finances. I did, however, pick up a crazy one-of-a-kind Roger Rossmeisl prototype from Fender from about 1967 for a song that I'm going to try and sell - perhaps that'll fund my little pet project. ;)

Man, that really blows. Sorry to hear about that. Gibson should have just stopped taking orders, and finished the orders that were already in. But that wouldn't be the Gibson thing thing to do, would it?

I ran across this '97 FB V a few weeks ago, glad I grabbed it now. So used is always an option. If it's at a store like this one just use a credit card if you need payments.
