See that's the thing, the post that started all this had nothing to do with what my mother thinks about gay people or gay issues, it was all about that she doesn't know what the rainbow means and wouldn't understand why people were waiving at her as the motored down the highway, which I thought was pretty funny. Thats all it was about, nothing more.

Here it is:
"A few years back my parents had whats called a 5th wheel, which is essentially a RV and my mom found a bumper sticker of the whole gay rainbow thing and not knowing what it represented she was going to put it on the back of their RV. I convinced her it might not be the right bumper sticker for her and my dad who were in their 70's at the time. I can just imagine how that would have played out, getting waives and beeps from some interesting folks and my mom thinks what a friendly world we have. It still cracks me up, I didn't have the heart to tell her what it would have been representing. Good old mom, gotto love her"

... and then it all went to shit. I'm out.

I have no beef with you, especially since we agree that people
(1) are entitled to their beliefs
(2) do not automatically have to be respected - judge it on its merits or flaws only
(3) provided they do not force their beliefs on others.

But what if you really don't hate people for what they believe in but still think something is a sin or wrong to do? Not everyone hates people, that's what I don't understand here, hate isn't part of this from this vantage point.

I think there is a general "softening" of the stance that the churches have towards their nominated sins.

20 years ago it was much more common (and accepted) for the priest to stand up and use the Bible as justification for telling people of a certain behaviour that they would go to hell.

These days there is a lot more "namby pamby" about the whole thing with people not wanting to be seen as pointing the finger. So there is a message of "well it's not right with God, but I'M not sending someone to hell" since that's a much easier and softer message to deliver.

Really though, it comes down to what's in the book though right? Which is why I stated that the "hate the sin not the sinner" statement does not come from the bible.

WBC preach from the bible, and their anti-gay stance is supported by the bible. It's unpopular, but it's true. Arguably, at least they're honest about what they believe in. Both with themselves and with others.

Adding fuel to the fire.

I'm no fan of the way the WBC operates, but doing stuff like this just to be antagonistic, isn't really helping to solve any problems. Want the WBC to back off? QUIT GIVING THEM AMMUNITION!!! Once they realize people could give to shits about their ass-backwards POV, maybe they'll stop?

Their (WBC) whole schtick is to ruffle as many feathers as they can, and from the looks of it, it's working like a charm?

Fvck that. Silence in the face of obnoxiousness only lets them think that they are accepted, and acceptable. This is perfect, because while the home owner isn't having a media meltdown or being ugly, they're sending a clear message. They should not have the podium to themselves, at all, ever.

Put it this way. There are plenty of atheists -- I'm not one of them -- who'd love to portray the WBC as being more representative of Christianity than they actually are, and one of the best ways that could happen is for the millions upon millions of decent Christians stay silent while these dicks spew their hatred in the name of God.

Well you may be right, still though I may have to give my mom a call and get her fill me in with some insight on her point of view about the subject at hand and post it here or the edification of this threads participants. It's quite possible we'll all be surprised by her answers and ability to be progressive, unpredictable and forward thinking. BTW she just turned 83 this past week.

And I could be wrong. I can't tell what your mom thinks. For what it's worth though, I call out my own mother out on her dogma too where I feel it's warranted.

Gay crusaders like tommy don't take part in this stuff for the gay cause they have an agenda of their own. Don't be fooled by them. They want you to believe its about people's rights and everyone being equal but in the future when their agenda is fulfilled they will turn against other stuff and behave just like the bigwigs they often say they fight.

Just look at his comments and how he talks about religious views. He's an anti religion bigot. When the gay cause turns into nothing as people realizes everyone is human and we should worry and deal with other human things not related to sexuality, he and his kind will fight against/for sugar consumers, pot smokers, tree hugers, shark fin dealers, anti religion bigots, white minorities.

And I'll be there with him because by that time we will be life partners.

Copy and paste my words. Save them and in some years you'll see.

what are you basing any of this statement on? the only thing i'm advocating for is that all humans should have equal rights and be viewed equally regardless of sexual preference, race, creed, whatever. i don't have a problem with someone choosing to believe in a religion, or any other magical thinking as long as you don't manifest it by being an assbag and pushing your beliefs on others. if you need a religion to tell you how to be a good person, fine, do it, whatever, but keep it to yourself and if it's telling you to hate someone or look down on someone's lifestyle, it's making you an assbag, find a new religion... or don't, and figure out how to live ethically without fear of reprisal from a sky tyrant.

...I think it's you that are exibiting signs of bigotry and can't even see it.

Such is often the case with the "enlightened". Their bigotry is acceptable because they know better...their views must be embraced while those that don't agree with them must be denigrated...after all, they're "enlightened". If you ever have any doubts about what you should believe, PM H2k for the deetz.:thumb:

:hmm:

What doesn't make sense to someone makes sense to someone else.

If I was telling you what to do or what you were thinking is wrong I could see it but yeah I can't since I wasn't,didn't & never would. If you took my expressing an opposing viewpoint to your statements as such then it was in error.

If you think this standing up to the WBC isn't a good idea (and thats what I'm getting from you.is that wrong?) then that's you.Me?I think it's top shelf activity that should be encouraged & supported & I can see every reason for doing so

I hope you find it as funny as I do that I could reply to all of your replies with other replies made by you in the same reply.... ehhhh :hmm: what?

Thundergod, would it be more accurate to say you are mildly retarded or severely retarded?

Looking forward to your insight.

I think the house looks good.
I'd paint my house like that, if I had the cash.
