With the recent thread about the ABB playing their final gigs,I figured it was also worth mentioning that they ended it on the same day that 43 years ago that they lost their founding father and driving force that started it all.

Rest in Peace brother,
Duane Allman.

I try not to think about the fact by the Duane was my age he'd been dead for 34 years........

Has anybody this side of Buddy Holly made such an impact in such a short time?

What an amazing impact in such a short window.

Can't help but wonder what his body of work would have been if he was able to stay with us longer.

Thanks for the tunes while you were here Skydog. I never would have picked up a slide if it weren't for you. RIP.

May he rest in eternal peace. Thank you brother Duane. I bet you would have ended the bitterness between your brothers if you were still here. You changed my life.

Maybe Skynyrd? Their recording career lasted only four years and look what they managed to release during that time.

Randy Rhoads maybe? He influenced a shit-ton of people through just two albums (if you don't count his work with Quiet Riot).

Amazing player. Amazing band. Best slide player ever and the best white blues singer in the same band. Hell the same family!

There is a story out there, apparently first told by Berry and a few other people who witnessed it, that when Duane OD'd in NYC (I think it was NYC) Berry was wandering around the hospital praying out loud and saying "please God, just give him another year". From what I remember, it was one year to the week later (or damned close) that Duane had his accident. And Berry died from his accident just one year and thirteen days after that, only three blocks from where Duane had his accident.

I have a book about the ABB somewhere upstairs in which the story above is related. I'll try to remember to grab it and check the facts about that hospital story (at least as they are related in that book).

Mentioned this in another thread but it occurred to me when someone mentioned the anniversary of Duane's death being tonight that 40 years ago tonight I was watching Gregg Allman Tour in Athens, GA.

Man Colchar, all your threads lately are downers. X years ago, Lynyrd Skynyrd died. X years ago, Duane Allman died. X days ago, a dead body drove past my house.

Look on the bright side, man! It's a sad state of affairs when I have to be a beacon of light.

Here is a video of Berry's grandson and Berry's 'Tractor' bass:

They are memorial threads to artists that many of us here love, which should be obvious unless one is intent on stirring up shit.

Have some respect. He was a soldier killed in a terrorist attack.

I don't know what your problem is lately but if you have something to say to me, take it to PM and don't bring your shit into threads memorializing artists that many here love.

That is the same cemetery where they came across the grave of Elizabeth Reed right?
Yes...and Little Martha. My grand parents are buried in the one that adjoins it called Riverside. They are both flanked by the Ocmulgee River.
