Kris Ford: Thanks for the "Thank You" Brother
And you are welcome!
Here's my story.
First Gibson with "Les Paul" on the headstock was a 90-91(?? I don't remember the actual year..) black Les Paul Special. (I bought a '71 SG when I was 17..for
200 bucks, that was my FIRST Gibson, sold it 4 years later when I was in the Navy. (I joined when I was 17 as well, took it with me on the ship even!)
I got it in 93, and traded a '74 Fender Thinline Telecaster for it, (plus cash...) and realize I got screwed on that deal every day..

But in the early 90's those Teles weren't well regarded..and the LP Special was NEW, so maybe it was more fair than I remember. Funny, as I had older "experts" tell me that it wasn't a real Fender, that model never existed..etc..etc..(which these A-holes are what made me go on the quest for knowledge BY MYSELF, as there was A LOT of bad info going around..still is..

)
I had that, but didn't bond with it...so I traded that LP Special for a '72 SG Pro, which sounded killer, but it being young, I traded it even for a '78 SG Special, (which for that year, was basically a Standard, with an unbound dot fretboard) Killer guitar, but dumb me moved that one..
Fast forward to when I was discharged from the NAVY and came home, I kept trading up, trading laterally, even trading down, (all SGs btw) til I somehow wound up with a 1975 Tobacco Sunburst (the almost BLACK to brown variant)
Les Paul Deluxe, that was in rough shape, and I lovingly searched the entire Detroit area for parts, and made it whole again, and remember clearly, sitting and watching TV while polishing the finish, restoring the shine to a mirror like glow. there were 2 issues with that one which bugged me though.
First, was there was a seam separation, that a "heavy" pick would fit in..and there was a mini-toggle..somehow, someone had tapped a mini-hum! It was all disconnected, but can't imagine how that might have sounded..hell, it may have been awesome..but I can't deal with non-Gibson installed mods like that..so, maybe, in part to how, even at a younger age, the period correct details were IMPORTANT to me, and I had luck finding the parts, and devoted a LOT of time polishing it, I was able to trade it even up for a 1964 SG Junior.
The SG Junior was awesome, and one I should have kept, but I wanted SG with binding and trapezoid inlays..(you know, the stuff you DON"T even hear..)
So the Junior went bye bye..and I spent the following years trading and buying about 40 different LPs and SGs til now, where my only LP at the time is my 'late '75/ early 76 Les Paul Deluxe (with full size humbuckers)

Kinda like going full circle.
