M, I took WHATEVER I wanted. I worked at a seafood restaurant- cleaned the bar AND had the key to the booze room. I would empty soda bottles and fill them with custom orders for my buddies= $7 for 16 oz of Applejack-my fave, Rum, vodka=my smoke money. I would then take 3 litre bottles for me- GREAT weekends in 11-12th grade. I knew I had to burn myself out to achieve Godhead. I made a fine young PUNK!

I see Fezz working at the fish docks in Philly, slapping co-workers with fish while a cigarette dangles from his mouth.

That Philly "thing".

If it's really great it'll surface. The band may have broken up by the time it does but the really good stuff always finds it's way up. :)

I find this works with the unavoidably huge acts. I got on to the Black Keys and Mastodon this way. However, as I mentioned, Ive become a huge fan of Uncle Acid and the Deadbeats, whom I would have never heard of if I had waited for them to make it big. Some of the best new acts are not what the industry wants to promote, hence my need to do some digging for it. :)

:laugh2:Dave, actually it was Seafood Shanty-Trenton NJ-Rich knows the joint. I was a long-haired Travolta kind of young PUNK. I washed dishes and stole booze+seafood-ate many a lobster on the toilet. LOVED my job.

Mal, you are certainly welcome. :)

Have you listened to any of their stuff? I FREAKIN' love their last album. It's like John Lennon filtered through Alice Cooper joined Black Sabbath. :thumb:

nah I haven't been digging lately for new stuff.

Been learning the Hardwired to Self Destruct album when not working on my own stuff.

I'll tell ya,...honestly,...it feels like being a kid again! Having a new 'tallica record I dig and wanting to learn the songs,...hitting Play, Stop, Rewind (ok, sliding back on the YouTube video)....but it's still fun!

I figured out 3 songs then bought the book, (actually a student sent me the book and got one for himself. A truly awesome gift.)

And immediately I had to compare my transcriptions with the book.

...I still got it. :dude:

Spent Saturday sitting there with the book going through it. Great fun, like being a kid again.

Great timing too having a new (inspiring) Metallica record because I've been writing faster heavier songs the past couple years so my mind is already 'in the zone' for thrash/death metal.

If you have a sec, giv'em a listen, I think you might dig. :thumb:

P.S. I dig the new Metallica. Best 'tallica since ...And Justice For All, IMO.

Not bad, NGG. And a pretty fair description on your part. Maybe a little too stoner/ grunge for my tastes, but I bet it would grow on me and appeal, given the right match with my mood at the time.

Seems like the vocals are a little lost in the mix though. Could also be because it's YouTube through an iPhone and Beats headphones. Might need a touch of treble too, but then again, my ears are 51 yo.

For me a little Uncle Acid goes a long way, not bad but a bit the same.

For me while I like finding new bands I also enjoy rediscovering older bands like Love. Music doesn't have an expiration date on it and something recorded 50 years ago can still be fresh. :)
