Okay, Ace Frehley ain't Eric Clapton, but it's still been owned by a very famous rock star who is closely associated with Les Pauls. That aside, rock star or not, it's still a '59 and has one of the most insane flame tops I've ever seen.

Will it fetch top dollar? I don't keep up on the pricing of vintage instruments very closely but it seems to me it could pull in at least $750k.

At least he's not asking a million for it.

Considering Hammett payed $2 million for Greeny which I would consider being one of the "ultimate Les Pauls".

This one (also a beauty) sold for 110,000$ recently

So I suppose anything in between.

I must say that is an amazing flame top for a `59.

Um... I'm a KISS fan and I'm no idiot. Now, I would say that guitar players in general are fools who are easily separated from their money on the promise of making their sound 1/100th bit "better" by purchasing the latest boutique or vintage amp/pedal/pickups/whatever - but I do include myself in THAT group.

kirk hammett didnt pay $2million for the guitar. that was the asking price but he paid significantly less than that for it. he said there was no way he could pay $2million for it.

Could or would pay $2 million? At this point in his career, I'm pretty sure Hammett could throw down $2 million for a guitar if he wanted to. But I don't know of him to be a guitar collector, just a player who mostly buys just what he needs so I'm thinking it falls under "would."

I'm sure he just meant he couldn't justify it.

“It’d been on the market for a few years,” Hammett says, “but the price was just way too high. “And then I kind of waltzed into a situation where the owner of the guitar needed money. And of course I totally took advantage of the situation, worked out a deal and bought it, all within an hour’s time, because I was so friggin’ blown away by the fact that I was holding a guitar that Peter Green played in Fleetwood Mac and then Gary Moore played for, like, 25 years after.”

“I was like, ‘Hey, hey, hey, hey. Wait a second here. Wait a second. I don’t have $2 million for this guitar,’ ” he told his friend upon seeing the guitar. “And my friend said, ‘Oh, that’s all poppycock. I don’t know where that came from. That was the original price maybe 10 or 12 years ago but that’s since been adjusted.’ ”

I think you meant that the people judging them are the "less than bright" variety.

Thanks for the quote! :thumb:

No doubt. Even with rock star money, that's a tough amount to throw down on a guitar.

They do, it's just that they've been hearing about how KISS is a moronic, low brow band since the 70's. Believe it or not, once you get past the costumes and makeup and crazy marketing tactics, there are some really good songs and they put on one helluva great live show - a show that is much more fun and exciting than watching a bunch of guys dressed just like me stand in one place all night while they play.

Its a beauty, and it was Ace's, so there's definitely an allure to it. It'll be interesting to see how much she goes for.

+ 1, not even remotely close to 2 million. :laugh2: :laugh2: :laugh2:

Not even 1 million for that matter.

As for the Ace, well there is a similar Top at RS that was listed at 375 large that I know could have been had for 350 large. So if you figure that + celebrity use then maybe Another 100 large or so max.

The world is full of stupid people IMHO.

:cheers2:
