I bought my 2017 LP Standard HP almost a year ago exactly. I had no need or intention to change anything, including the G-Force. As time has passed and I looked at it daily, I come to realize it wasn't "just the way I wanted" but, couldn't quite put my finger on what I wanted to change.
The only things that were really important were....1). Fret over binding. 2). Zero nut. 3). Shaved heel. Everything else was incidental and easy to change.
The chrome knobs were ok and at least something a little different. I had a set of black Top hats with silver inserts on hand so, I put them on and really liked the way they looked, so they stayed on and got me to consider what other changes might look good.
I was perfectly fine with no Switch chip but, decided to see what it would look like with one. I tried three shades of Cream, with and without the pick guard but, just didn't like it. So, I found a metal, Chrome/black/white one that I soon realized was going to balance out what was to come next (though I didn't actually know at the time).
Though opinions may vary, I wasn't really getting on with the Burstbucker Pro/Pro+ pick ups. So, I went with SD Pearly Gates to install. I ordered Nickel covers but, changed to Zebras just before they shipped and doubt I could be happier with the choice.
Putting a very nice tonal quality aside, The balance of Black/Chrome/Cream seems to have balanced out just right....at least as far as I'm concerned.
Also, I was fine with the G-Force, I liked the convenience and ease of use. Over time, I noticed that I wasn't using the alternate tuning features like I thought I would. I also noticed that even though it was quick, easy and accurate, I had to retune frequently. So, It was and easy change to the Grover locking tuners...(super easy string changes)...Love 'um!!!!
The only other thing I may change is the TRC. I just need to decide between blank/Standard or custom engraved.
I just don't want mine to look like every other LP out there. I just wanted to make this one "Mine"..... just when I thought I couldn't love it any more........I do.
EDIT: The other thing that made this whole PU change completely painless, was the "quick connect" adapter. No soldering and so simple, even a dolt like me had 100% success the first try.....love it!!!!
Of course it looks much better in person than these crappy phone pix
