Get a high power amp and mod the volume control circuit so it doesn't go all the way up. She'll think she's blowing the doors off, and you'll know all is safe.

Ha! I already did that. Th Arcam has a volume ceiling you can set. She's not that stupid...immediately she said "what did you do? why won't this go louder"

dagostino_momentum_stereo.jpg

Specified as having a maximum power of 300W (24.8dBW), the Momentum comfortably exceeded that rating, clipping at 405W into 8 ohms (26.1dBW), with clipping defined as the point when the percentage of THD+noise in its output reaches 1% (fig.5). Fig.6 reveals that the amplifier clips at 640W into 4 ohms (25.05dBW), while into 2 ohms (fig.7), the amplifier puts out 1115W (24.45dBW). As with Dan D'Agostino's earlier amplifier designs for Krell, the Momentum is a powerhouse!

Yep. DIY tube amp.

:thumb:

Another vote for valve amplifiers for domestic listening.

They take a while to warm up, but as they do they begin to sound even better, drawing the listener into the music.

Do what I did. Go to a yard sale and watch the seller lug out a whopper receiver. He had just set it down and I was 10 feet away. All I saw were lots of knobs. I asked him; "How much?" "$4"; said he. SOLD!!! The damn thing weighed a ton. I got it home and set it up. It worked!!!! It was a Sansui. Not the low-end. It was a 9090DB. If you check ebay, a 9090DB "For Parts. Not working." runs around $500 or more. About how "Loud". Plenty loud. Too loud for a mobile home. However, every once in awhile I light up the Park.
