Now that I come to think of it… they may have found a good way to kill the second hand market which they see as competitor to the new market haha i sure am not considering buying any second hand ML for now…

I wonder if there is a Gibson PR guy on the forum who just silently sits and reports the ongoings to the company

gibson is all over these forums, it’s a free look into the thoughts of their customers.

Just look at the reference to the gear page threads, a forum they have no control over but has too big a following to ignore. When Gibson mentioned them in their article, you KNOW they are reading these forums.

Then you have THE les Paul forum which will ban you and delete any thread that has any content they feel shames Gibson, that forum has turned into a patsy for all things Gibson, and is as reliable as a Joe Bonamassa endorsement.

Here on MY les Paul they have little control, but they are watching…

I will give credit to THE LP forum, they are doing a better job of keeping quiet, and damage control than Gibson themselves. Which all they had to do was keep their mouth shut, and work hard to fix the problem.

If it were me in charge, I would have reached out to the dealers, and customers and offered a replacement, or store credit towards any new guitar. Then recalled all the affected guitars and either sold them as seconds,at a significant discount.

It could be a win,win situation. Customers affected could get a suitable replacement, and customers on a lower budget would gladly consider a ML at a reduced price. Gibson would look like a stellar customer service example, and the tempest in a teacup would not turn into the shitstorm they now are blessed with.

.My guess, they've shipped so many guitars that if they admit to the f*ck up and make everyone whole, heads will roll at Gibson.

Let's see, you've been here 2 and half years and you've cost us (KR) 2+ million?

That won't fly...

Yes you definetely would want to check on warranty because I do not believe it covers anyone other than the original purchaser. And given the hiccups with replacing defective guitars I think it is better to just avoid these guitars altogether.

I am not convinced that they have even resolved the problem with the newer guitars. There is no evidence of that yet. And I am still suspicious that the replacement guitar I received was not old stock but was actually fresh off the production line. I do not trust anything said by a Gibson employee anymore.

I wonder how much money was spent on people doing market research, product placement, advertising, product development, engineering,.... before Tom Murphy and his Lab got to build one example??

A lot of Bozos earning big bucks scratching their big red noses.... and Gibson can't afford another set back.

"Let's put it all in a tea cup" one brilliant clown spoke.

I'm definitely less interested in getting a ML after reading this thread and the stance Gibson has taken in addressing the issues related to these guitars. I feel like the term Lab implies to some extent experimentation and I think Gibson is experimenting in the ways in which we'll put up with this nonsense. Soon we'll have to pay extra for finish that stays on.

I’m genuinely curious what level of guitar player are you?

Do you buy guitars to collect or to play?

Not trying to be snarky just honestly curious, thanks!
I'm a level 5. You?

Realistically speaking Level 7 maybe 8 although I do practice some Level 11-12 stuff. Can’t commit much to memory anymore, and aging fingers often have something else in mind. Ah well, can still read pretty good.

If the scale is 1 thru 10, I’ve seen level 15 players in their garage become level 1 onstage with a band.

It’s the performance with others that makes a good player.

Just my opinion and experience.

I’m genuinely curious if the thought is that the two are mutually exclusive?

I can’t for the life of me think of any guitar collector who isn’t a player? A car collector who doesn’t love to drive? A fishing lure collector who isn’t passionate about fly fishing?

Players are your guitar collectors, and the greatest players, the highest “level” have the most amazing collections.

There are collectors who don’t play.... nothing wrong with that.

Those who do play usually have the most diverse assortment of instruments. Not just guitars.

You know,..... I collect Hotwheels.... but I never take them out of their packaging.... sometimes admiration is all you need to become sick....;)

I have been playing since high school and partially put myself thru college from the money we made in our college band.

But these days I would be considered a collector and weekend BBQ player.

I played at a young age because of my dad.
I didn’t take it seriously till I was 10 years old.
Performing in a band in paid gigs at 13.

Been through a lot of gear, and this is what I have left after 40 + years.
